The Washington Commanders‘ offense was clicking on all cylinders on Sunday, as QB Sam Howell threw for 397 passing yards and four touchdowns in the 38-31 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
He threw the ball to all of his targets, as six Commanders had at least four catches. WR Jahan Dotson led the way with eight catches for 108 yards and one touchdown. Shortly behind him was Logan Thomas. The tight end had six catches for 44 yards and one touchdown.
Is this a sign of things to come for Thomas, who has been targeted 14 times in the last two weeks, and fantasy football managers who roster the pass catcher?
Should Logan Thomas Be a Fantasy Waiver Wire Add in Week 9?
Thomas is arguably one of the biggest wild card fantasy football players. When he is at his best, he has top five-to-10 potential. Against the Chicago Bears in Week 5, he had nine catches for 77 yards and one touchdown. He is a great athlete for the tight end position, as he was a collegiate quarterback at Virginia Tech.
While he can be great in situations, he can also have some frustrating games where he isn’t really involved in the offense.

With Thomas being so hit or miss, is he worth signing off the waiver wire?
Yes, without a question. If he is on your waiver wire, sign him right now. He is my top waiver wire tight end and the only one I have had this year that has produced. It is frustrating when he has those dud games, but he absolutely is a target that Howell loves to look for.
He currently has 40 targets this year, which is fourth on the team. WR Terry McLaurin (63), Dotson (49) and WR Curtis Samuel (43) are also a big part of the Commanders’ offense, but OC Eric Bieniemy has always been big on sharing the ball with multiple options. Even when the Kansas City Chiefs had WR Tyreek Hill and TE Travis Kelce, guys like WR Sammy Watkins and WR Mecole Hardman still got the ball a lot.
Right now, the Commanders are going to have to score a lot of points to win games this year. Washington currently allows 28.5 points per game, which is 31st (Indianapolis, 28.6), and that doesn’t appear to be changing at all. That was the third game this year the Commanders have been a part of a game where both teams scored at least 30 points. That will be stressful for Commanders’ fans but should be great for fantasy managers.
Howell is going to have to throw the ball a lot moving forward, and that should open up a lot of opportunities for Thomas as well as the other receivers.
