Monday Night Football Tonight: Who Plays, TV Channel, Start Time, Live Stream Options, and More for Week 8

Monday Night Football tonight is back. The Las Vegas Raiders are facing the Detroit Lions, with both having playoff aspirations. Who will be victorious?

Monday Night Football is back as the Las Vegas Raiders face the Detroit Lions in a matchup of two of the most history-rich franchises in the NFL. The Raiders enter this contest winners of two of their last three games, remaining in the AFC Wild Card picture. The Lions, despite a humbling defeat to the Baltimore Ravens, still lead the otherwise punchless NFC North.

Las Vegas has battled injuries and inconsistency at the QB position throughout 2023. With QB Jimmy Garoppolo back under center, the offense should be as sturdy as it has been all season.

For the Lions, Jared Goff remains a stalwart at the QB position, but the pieces around him move like shifting sand. The Lions will again be without veteran bruising back David Montgomery in this contest. Expect Detroit to feature 2023 first-round pick Jahmyr Gibbs as a runner and receiver on Monday Night Football.

Who Plays on Monday Night Football Tonight?

Las Vegas’ offense has become a more balanced approach lately, making the unit more difficult to stop. Alpha receiver Davante Adams remains at the top of his game as one of the top pass catchers in the league. Adams will be featured in the Raiders’ passing game on Monday Night Football, and Detroit must find a way to stop him.

Jakobi Meyers has been tremendous in 2023, too. The former New England Patriot has made a difference in the Josh McDaniels’ offense, and teams can’t focus all their attention on Adams, or Meyers will destroy them in the intermediate.

Josh Jacobs remains one of the most consistent runners in football. He hasn’t had many explosive plays, but the Raiders don’t want to get into a track meet with the Lions. Look for Las Vegas to feature the running game to control the clock on Monday.

The last time the Raiders were on Monday Night Football was earlier this month on Oct. 9. Las Vegas won the game, but that didn’t stop social media from ripping head coach Josh McDaniels’ passive play-calling and in-game situational awareness. Has the coach learned from his mistakes?

Ahead of this week’s pivotal matchup, NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero reported that the team held an open floor meeting to discuss some of the issues plaguing the team.

“Coach Josh McDaniels, I’m told, opened the floor in a team meeting on Thursday to players, allowing them to voice all the frustrations that at times have bubbled over publicly during the team’s 3-4 start,” Pelissero said on NFL Network’s “The Insiders.” Guys like Maxx Crosby, Davante Adams, Josh Jacobs all spoke up — but so did players from every area of the roster.

“And nothing from personnel, to scheme, to culture, to coaching was off limits. I’m told that the meeting was considered by players to be very positive, it was cathartic, they got a lot of things off their chest. A chance to bond a little bit and kind of emotionally reset before a big game Monday night against the Lions.”

    Will the therapy session help?

On the other side, the Lions must get their weapons involved early and often. Amon-Ra St. Brown enters this contest under the weather, so his status remains questionable, and if he suits up, he may not be 100%.

Second-year speedster Jameson Williams has an opportunity to perform under the bright lights of Monday Night Football, reminding the national TV audience why the Lions traded up for the Alabama product in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft.

Detroit head coach Dan Campbell doesn’t have the fondest memories of Monday Night Football, though. When asked what his favorite MNF moment was during one of this week’s press conferences, he recalled a time he made a critical mistake.

“I f***ed up. I was supposed to release, and instead, I blocked down, and it cost us the game,” he said.

Lions fans will hope Campbell fares better as a head coach than he did as a player.
