Week 8 QB Waiver Wire Targets: Players To Consider Include Derek Carr, Mac Jones, and Kenny Pickett

It is always a challenge to find every-week startable quarterbacks off the waiver wire. Who are the top Week 8 waiver wire pickups at the QB position?

The waiver wire is rarely rich at the QB position. We are now in Week 8. At this point, the surprise QB1s have already been added. Unfortunately, all we really have are glorified streamers. Fantasy football managers will need to either make a trade or make do with what’s available.

Derek Carr, New Orleans Saints (35% Rostered)

At this time, we still don’t have any information on Derek Carr’s groin injury. It could be nothing. It could force him to miss next week’s game. For now, let’s assume he plays. If he does, Carr has a great matchup against a Colts defense that struggles to defend the pass.

Carr has shown a willingness to air it out. He has a whopping 105 pass attempts over his last two games and threw for over 300 yards in each.

While Carr only has one game with multiple touchdown passes, he could put up his second against the Colts. He’s a viable streaming option for those in need.

Which QBs Should You Roster in Fantasy Football?

Should You Roster Mac Jones or Joshua Dobbs?

This one is for the Superflex folk out there. There is no reason to roster either of these quarterbacks in a single-QB league.

Mac Jones is coming off arguably his best game of the season. At the very least, it was his best game since Week 1. Jones threw for 272 yards and two touchdowns without an interception in the Patriots’ upset win over the Bills.

While Jones deserves credit for his play, this is still a guy who had scored 10 fantasy points combined in his previous three games.

Joshua Dobbs hasn’t been a reliable fantasy starter, either. However, he does have two games with 20+ fantasy points.

With that said, the Cardinals’ next two games are against the Ravens and Browns. Those are two horrific matchups. They are also likely Dobbs’ final two starts of the season, as Kyler Murray is nearing a return.

Given the fact that Dobbs will soon be a backup, the edge goes to Jones here. But outside of Superflex leagues, where every starting QB is rostered, neither should even be on the fantasy radar.

Should You Roster Kenny Pickett or Gardner Minshew?

This one is also for those in Superflex leagues. Kenny Pickett seems to just find ways to win games. That’s great for the Steelers, but it’s not really doing much for fantasy managers.

Pickett’s 15.2 fantasy points were his second-highest of the season. He’s stopped 12 fantasy points just twice.

Against the Rams, Pickett didn’t throw a single touchdown. It was his second game without a touchdown this season.

Gardner Minshew, on the other hand, has displayed elite QB1 upside. Of course, he is not an elite QB1; he’s not even a QB1. But every once in a while, he has these games where he throws (or runs for) a bunch of touchdowns. That happened against the Browns.

Minshew threw for 305 yards and one touchdown while adding two on the ground. His 28 fantasy points were better than any game in Pickett’s career. Neither of these guys is an every-week fantasy starter. But if you need one in a pinch, it’s Minshew.
