The Philadelphia Eagles are eighth overall in passing yards, but they still sought out more firepower for the rest of the 2023 season. So they welcomed in seven-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Julio Jones to bolster the passing attack on Tuesday.
Following Jones’ signing, his newest teammate, Jason Kelce, sounded off on the move on the New Heights podcast Wednesday alongside his brother, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.
From the current NFL standings to team depth charts to coverage of every game in the 18-week NFL schedule, we have all the news from around the league to keep you up to speed!
What Did Jason Kelce Say About the Eagles Adding Julio Jones?
Travis Kelce announced the signing on the show. Jason Kelce was a man of few words to begin his reaction to the significant signing.
“I don’t really know what to say,” Kelce began. “But welcome to the team, brother!”
Jason, however, wasn’t succinct with his words right after.
“We will talk big, fast, athletic freaks of nature any day of the week,” Kelce said. “We already had a great receiving corps, and this will add to it.”
He also likes how Jones has been a proven winner since his collegiate days at the University of Alabama.
“Julio, beyond being the player that he is, he’s been on teams that have been really successful, college and the NFL,” Kelce said. “Generally, when you’re around that much greatness, it rubs off on you, or you’re the one doing the rubbing off.”
The Eagles center concluded with, “I have a feeling this guy will be good to have around the building, and he’s going to bring value to our organization. So welcome to the team, brother.”
Travis Kelce Provides NSFW Reaction to Jones’ Signing
Even the two-time Super Bowl champion with the Chiefs had a strong reaction to the Eagles signing — one that came with expletives.
“Oh s***,” Travis Kelce began. “That’s a wild pickup, man, but, f***, if he comes out and plays the way Julio Jones can play, I mean, that’s a damn good f***ing pickup.”
Jones will be walking into a receiver room already stockpiled with talent. A.J. Brown, who teamed with Jones with the Tennessee Titans, leads the Eagles with 42 catches for 672 yards and two touchdowns.
On the opposite end of Brown is DeVonta Smith, who has snatched 28 catches for 334 yards and also has scored twice.
The Eagles, however, struggled offensively against the New York Jets Sunday in the 20-14 loss, handing Philly its first defeat of the season. Brown delivered 131 yards but was kept out of the end zone. Smith was limited to 44 yards and just five catches.
Philadelphia is now Jones’ fourth NFL city. The longtime Atlanta Falcons wide receiver has played for three different franchises in the last three seasons and was with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2022.
Jones, though, fired off this message via Eliot Shorr-Parks of 94 WIP Sports Radio.
“My mindset is to dominate. Don’t get it twisted. I’m here to dominate,” Jones said.
