Following the Sunday action from Week 6, BetOnline has updated their first NFL head coach fired odds for this season, and Matt Eberflus is currently the betting favorite at +100. The Chicago Bears head coach appears to have the least amount of job security at the moment, as the team is currently 1-5 despite all of their offseason additions.
To round out the top five in first NFL head coach fired odds, you have Ron Rivera (+500), Josh McDaniels (+800), Brandon Staley (+900), and Mike Vrabel (+900). But six weeks into the NFL season, we have a new entry into the top 10 — New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick.

Could Bill Belichick Be the First NFL Head Coach Fired in 2023?
When you’re considered the greatest NFL head coach of all time and have delivered six Super Bowl trophies to your franchise, you would think you have unlimited job security, right? But with how poorly the Patriots have been playing, that might not necessarily be the case.

Currently at BetOnline, Belichick (+2000) has the seventh-shortest odds to be the first NFL head coach to get fired this season.
Sure, those odds indicate he is still a long shot at this point, but did anyone ever expect to be having a conversation about Belichick’s job security? If there were betting odds before the season on if we would be having a discussion about Belichick getting fired, they would have been a lot longer than +2000.
The Patriots are currently 1-5, and their opponents have outscored them by 80 points this season, which is the second-worst point differential in the NFL. They’re in the middle of a three-game losing streak in which they have scored just 20 combined points, as QB Mac Jones has completely regressed since his impressive rookie season.
As both the head coach and general manager for the Patriots, Belichick obviously deserves a large share of the blame here. Although injuries have piled up, most notably to Matthew Judon and Christian Gonzalez, the Patriots might have the least talented set of playmakers in the NFL, and their offensive line has greatly underperformed. As bad as Jones has been, he is also in one of the worst situations in the NFL, and a lot of it is Belichick’s fault.
Belichick has finally entered the “race” to be the first NFL head coach fired this season, and if you think there’s at least a slight chance of him losing his job, I would bet on it now before the odds continue to drop. According to Tankathon, they have the Patriots seventh-hardest schedule remaining, with games against the Buffalo Bills (twice), Miami Dolphins, Los Angeles Chargers, and Kansas City Chiefs upcoming.
