Week 7 TE Waiver Wire Targets: Top Players To Add Include Michael Mayer and Taysom Hill

The TE position looks like a barren wasteland. Is there any help we can find off the Week 7 waiver wire at fantasy football's worst position?

The Week 7 waiver wire is like every other week at the tight end position: There just isn’t much out there. Waiver adds at TE are very much an exercise in chasing your tail and hoping to catch it just once. With that in mind, here are some potential targets for fantasy football managers on the wire this week.

Michael Mayer, Las Vegas Raiders (5% Rostered)

Rookie tight ends have been pretty good this season, particularly Sam LaPorta. One who has not been great is Michael Mayer. He caught a total of three passes over his first five games. But in Week 6, something changed. Mayer caught five of six targets for 75 yards. It may be nothing. But it also could be Mayer starting to figure it out.

Mayer was a top prospect. If his playing time continues to grow, he could be a TE1 over the second half of the season. If you’ve been floundering at the position, take the stab.

    FAAB Recommendation: 0-5%

Taysom Hill, New Orleans Saints (7% Rostered)

For perhaps the first time in his career, Taysom Hill was actually used as a tight end in Week 6. He caught seven of eight targets for 49 yards.

Is this legit? I don’t know. But given the state of the TE position, it might be worth it to find out. That’s really the best I’ve got on Hill.

Which TEs Should You Roster in Fantasy Football?

Should You Roster Taysom Hill or Logan Thomas?

If the answer to this question probably feels like it changes every week, that’s because it does. Just one week after smashing for over 20 fantasy points, Logan Thomas cratered, catching just a single pass for two yards.

Meanwhile, Taysom Hill set a career-high in receptions with seven. His previous career high was three. Is this a blip or a sign of things to come? Your guess is as good as mine.

While Thomas undoubtedly disappointed managers who chased last week’s production, myself included, his role is still excellent. Thomas ran triple the routes of the other two Commanders TEs combined. It was just a weird game that resulted in him not being needed. Stick with Thomas here.

Should You Roster Michael Mayer or Zach Ertz?

For most of the season, Zach Ertz has found a way to be fantasy-viable. Whether it’s racking up short receptions or falling into the end zone, he gets it done. But it’s all smoke and mirrors.

Ertz can barely move anymore. Last week, he saw his role decrease to the point where he played fewer than 50% of the snaps. Trey McBride is coming along. The Cardinals need him to be the answer, and I believe he will be.

I have no idea if Michael Mayer’s increased usage last week is going to stick. What I do know is Mayer is young, athletic, and plays on a team that doesn’t have a true third option in the passing game. There is upside with Mayer that doesn’t exist with Ertz.

You can find an Ertz on the waiver wire. It’s every other tight end not named Travis Kelce. Maybe Mayer becomes something more. Probably not, but it’s a chance worth taking.
