Rashee Rice Fantasy Waiver Wire: Should I Pick Up Chiefs WR This Week?

Should fantasy football managers look at picking up Rashee Rice off the waiver in Week 7, and what is his potential moving forward?

The Kansas City Chiefs are 5-1 on the season, but there are some issues still with the offense. Besides Travis Kelce, Patrick Mahomes hasn’t found a true receiver he can count on every week.

However, the rookie Rashee Rice may be starting to take the next step, so should fantasy football managers consider signing him off the waiver wire?

Should Rashee Rice Be a Fantasy Waiver Wire Add in Week 7?

There has been all kinds of talk about what the Chiefs offense is looking like right now. They are 5-1, but it doesn’t feel quite like the Chiefs that we have come to know during the Mahomes era.

The reason is the big plays and the 30-point performances aren’t quite there. After the season-opening loss, where the receivers had a really tough night, there has been a ton of focus on the position.

However, Rice is a guy that appears to be getting more targets. In the win against the Denver Broncos, Rice had four catches for 72 yards. He currently has two touchdowns but has been tackled on the 1-yard line on two occasions. Only Kelce has been targeted more, meaning Rice is the most targeted wide receiver.

Has he done enough to be worth a waiver wire addition? Yes, he is starting to really show he is going to be the No. 1 receiver target on the Chiefs. He is not going to steal targets from Kelce, but he is more likely to get it than Kadarius Toney or Skyy Moore.

Another reason that makes him intriguing is the Chiefs’ upcoming schedule. They play the Los Angeles Chargers next week, and the Chargers are the worst pass defense in the league. After that, it is the Broncos again and the Miami Dolphins, two more defenses that have struggled at times.

There are always a few guys who help people win championships that people aren’t expecting. Last year, it was Rice’s teammate Jerick McKinnon who went on a tear late in the year. McKinnon had eight touchdown catches in the final six weeks of the regular season and was a vital part of the Chiefs’ Super Bowl run.

To think that Rice is going to put up eight touchdowns in a six-game stretch might be asking for much, but there is absolutely a scenario where he wins people a fantasy week later in the season.

There aren’t going to be very many wide receivers who have the potential to be a top-two target on the team and the best wide receiver on the team.

You pair that with the best quarterback in the world, and Rice is definitely worth having on your team.
