Revisiting What Happened to David Njoku

Njoku suffered burns from a horrific household incident on Sept. 29.

In the household fire, Njoku had burns on his arm and face. For nearly a month, he went silent on social media and refrained from the spotlight. But it changed on Thursday.

    MORE: Cleveland Browns Depth Chart

He not only posted a picture of himself in his football uniform during a past Browns game but also took a selfie of his face for his personal Instagram page that revealed his burn marks.

And he made the posts not even one month after the house incident.

Njoku Reveals Why He Opted To Show His Scars

Speaking with the Cleveland media for the first time around the public Thursday, Njoku opened up on his reason for posting the graphic photo.

Turns out he had nurses who deal with burn victims who reached out to him. But Njoku also received messages from people who also sustained past fire marks.

“They were telling me how everyone feels embarrassed to show whatever,” he said inside the Browns’ locker room. “So I wanted to just come out forth and show myself so everyone feels a little bit better about themselves.”

Then, he shared his next message:

“The way I see it, all the pain and sufferings from training in the offseason are far worse than any of this. We really push ourselves a lot to strive to be great. So a little burn isn’t going to stop me.”
While the burns altered his facial appearance, Njoku revealed the important things that still remain for him. “The fact that I’m still breathing, I’ve still got my vision and everything,” he said, adding that “mentally, [I] feel great.”
His final message is one likely to resonate with those who have been in his situation while trying to overcome burns:

“End of the day, things heal.”
