Injury Updates for Top Fantasy Football RBs

    Amon-Ra St. Brown, Detroit Lions

Analysis last updated at 4:45 p.m. ET on Thursday, October 12.

Detroit Lions WR Amon-Ra St. Brown has averaged 17.4 fantasy points per game (fppg) in PPR formats this season.

After missing his first game of the season in Week 5 due to an abdomen injury, his ability to get on the practice field in a limited fashion certainly is a step in the right direction for him returning to the field on Sunday. He managed to upgrade that to a full participation on Thursday.

If St. Brown is active for the game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he should be a top-10 play at the WR position against a team who has allowed three WRs to go over the 100-yard mark through their first four games.

If St. Brown is unavailable for a second straight week, expect Sam LaPorta, Josh Reynolds, and potentially Jameson Williams to see some extra work in the passing game.

Editor’s Note: St. Brown was a full participant in Thursday’s practice.

    Austin Ekeler, Los Angeles Chargers

Analysis last updated at 4:45 p.m. ET on Thursday, October 12.

Austin Ekeler’s 26.4 fantasy points in Week 1 against the Miami Dolphins feels like an eternity ago for fantasy managers who have been forced to fill an RB1 overall-sized hole in their roster over the last four weeks.

Ekeler has missed three games due to an ankle injury. But he appears supremely confident about returning to the field in Week 6 against the Dallas Cowboys.

Ekeler’s optimism should help ease the concerns about the Chargers playing on Monday Night Football against the Dallas Cowboys as the last game on the slate for Week 6. That will have been further eased when he was able to start the week as a full participant on Thursday.

Ekeler was already a must-start when on your fantasy football team, but may get a slight bump with regards to looks in the passing game with Mike Williams suffering a season-ending injury in Week 3 against the Minnesota Vikings.

He saw five targets against the Dolphins, along with 16 carries, while working in tandem with Joshua Kelley, who also saw 16 carries in Week 1.

Ekeler managers should not fear Kelley’s involvement moving forward, seeing that he produced just 13.1 fantasy points over the three games while Ekeler was out of the lineup.

If Ekeler is active for Monday Night Football, he immediately returns to the top-5 in my weekly rankings at the RB position.

Should Ekeler be available again in Week 6, Kelley enters top-30 consideration at the position against the Cowboys.

    Keaontay Ingram, Arizona Cardinals

Analysis last updated at 12:29 p.m. ET on Thursday, October 12.

Emari Demercado was a popular waiver wire add in fantasy football leagues this week. It is definitely reasonable for managers to run to the waiver wire to add him after he dominated the work once James Conner left the game with an injury.

Demercado produced 57 total yards and a score on 11 total touches against the Cincinnati Bengals and could see an expanded role in the immediate future while Conner is on Injured Reserve.

However, there is another Cardinals running back you should be monitoring this week.

After failing to participate in Wednesday’s practice, Cardinals RB Keaontay Ingram returned to practice in a limited fashion on Thursday while trying to work his way back onto the field with a neck injury.

If Ingram is unavailable for the Cardinals’ Week 6 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams, Demercado likely gets inside the top 30 in the weekly rankings at the RB position.

If Ingram is active, I will be ranking both players outside of the top 35 until we get a better picture of who the leading back truly is while Conner is out of the lineup.
