Is Anders Carlson Related to Daniel Carlson? What To Know About Packers and Raiders Kicker Brothers

The Monday Night Football game between the Las Vegas Raiders and Green Bay Packers features something NFL fans haven't seen in 36 years.

The Monday Night Football game between the Green Bay Packers and Las Vegas Raiders features several subplots. One of the most notable stories from this game is a pair of kicking brothers facing off for the first time.

No matter who kicks the ball off, we will watch history as Raiders All-Pro kicker Daniel Carlson faces his brother, rookie Packers kicker Anders Carlson. The NFL has not seen a brotherly kicking matchup in 36 years.

In 1987, the Raiders played the Cleveland Browns, where Chris Bahr of the Raiders faced his brother Matt Bahr of the Browns. As exciting as this matchup is for football fans, the two most excited people in the stadium must be Hans and Jodie Carlson, the parents of Daniel and Anders. The family has not been together under one roof since 2022.

From the current NFL standings to team depth charts to coverage of every game in the 18-week NFL schedule, we have all the news from around the league to keep you up to speed!

Who Is the Better Kicker Between Anders and Daniel Carlson?

The brothers have given each other some light-hearted trash talk back and forth this week. How could they not? They are focusing on their kicking duties but want to take a second to recognize how special this moment is.

Daniel, the Raiders All-Pro kicker, reflected on the moment. “There’s going to be a balance of, ‘Hey, I got a game to get ready for, but I want to be conscious of taking some moments out and appreciating. Hey, we’ve both worked really hard.’ This has been our dream for a while. To see it come to fruition and get to play against each other is really special.”

Daniel Carlson has to be considered the better kicker, at least for now. Receiving All-Pro honors in his career is an accomplishment the rookie cannot match, but Anders has not missed a kick in his young career, so he is carving out his legacy in Green Bay.

Who Will the Parents Be Rooting For?

Parents out there screaming, “You can’t choose between your children.” The Carlsons have had to choose many times, picking which game to visit and which to miss. Jodie Carlson mentioned how difficult it has been to choose which game to frequent.

“I apologized to Daniel for not being at the Raiders-Broncos game because we usually make that. But we were going to Chicago, and we couldn’t make them both.”

The brothers attended Auburn, where they were coached by Rich Bisaccia, currently the special teams coordinator for Green Bay. Bisaccia praises both players, although he is rooting for the Packers first.

As for the parents, they will have the best seats in the house for their boys: in the front row behind the goalposts.
