Fantasy Matchups Week 5: Target These QBs

Jordan Love vs. Las Vegas Raiders

Let’s get this out of the way right from the jump… Jordan Love didn’t look all that good in Week 4 against the Detroit Lions. He passed on open wide receivers — which led to sacks — and had some accuracy issues throughout the night, which contributed to the Green Bay Packers’ second straight loss.

Even with his struggles against the Lions on Thursday Night Football, Love still managed to produce 246 yards through the air and two total touchdowns on the night.

He should be in line for a bounce-back performance against a Las Vegas Raiders defense that has given up 10 total touchdowns and an average of 20.4 fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks through the first four games of the season.

Not to mention, healthier versions of both Christian Watson and Aaron Jones should help this offense get closer to performing at its highest potential in a favorable matchup this week.

Expect a big week from Love and the Packers offense.

    Matthew Stafford vs. Philadelphia Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles defense has boatloads of talent on all three levels of this defensive unit, but they certainly haven’t been able to consistently put it all together this season outside of one performance against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Need proof? The Eagles currently allow the seventh-most points to opposing QBs through the first month of the season.

Sure, they’ve had their fair share of injuries early on — with Nakobe Dean, James Bradberry, and Avonte Maddox all missing time — but this one elite unit has been susceptible to giving up several passing yards to start the season.

That isn’t exactly great news when you’re about to face a Los Angeles Rams offense that has been productive through the air and just got former All-Pro WR Cooper Kupp back onto the practice field this week.

Stafford is averaging over 300 yards passing per game and currently leads the league in passing attempts.

If the Rams’ offensive line can hold up long enough to give Stafford enough time to find Kupp, Puka Nacua, and Tutu Atwell against a secondary that is working its way through some consistency issues, then Stafford could be a sneaky top-12 play at the position this week.

    Josh Allen vs. Jacksonville Jaguars

One may be inclined to roll their eyes at Josh Allen making this list, but we are simply trying to discuss viable fantasy options at the QB position with favorable matchups.

So far this season, the Jacksonville Jaguars are allowing an average of 18.2 fantasy points to opposing QBs. While the matchup on paper certainly looks good enough, what has me the most excited about Allen this week is how he appears to have continued his evolution as a passer.

Allen is currently just one-tenth of a second behind Tua Tagavailoa in QB pocket time, which is simply the average amount of time it takes from the time of the snap until the ball is thrown or the QB is pressured. That time for Tua is 2.2 seconds and 2.3 for Allen.

The ball is coming out of his hands very quickly in 2023. Combine a plus-level matchup with the fact that Allen has strung together three quality passing outings over the last three games, and this could be a recipe for Allen having a big fantasy day against the Jags.
