Fantasy Football Cut List Week 6: Dalvin Cook and Jahan Dotson Are on Too Many Rosters

As we head into Week 6 of the NFL season, who are the top cut-list candidates that fantasy football managers no longer need on their rosters?

Roster management is the single most crucial in-season task for fantasy football managers. Knowing which players to let go is as important as adding the right guys. Which players find themselves on our Week 6 fantasy football cut list?

Who Should You Cut in Fantasy Football in Week 6?

We are now firmly in the middle portion of the fantasy season. As a result, we have a much clearer picture of who these players are. This is when the cut list starts to feature names you probably wouldn’t have imagined outright cutting when the season started.

Daniel Jones, QB, New York Giants (56% Rostered)

My apologies, everyone! I overlooked Daniel Jones as a name on the cut list. Somehow, I didn’t realize he was rostered in so many leagues. That needs to change.

To paraphrase the late great Dennis Green, Daniel Jones is who we thought he was. The guy who the New York Giants were ready to give up on after three disappointing seasons didn’t just disappear because of one season where he completed a bunch of checkdowns.

Outside of one incredible half of football against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 2, Jones has been a complete disaster this season. He scored 31 fantasy points in Week 2. He hasn’t reached that number in his other four games combined.

Now, Jones is dealing with a neck injury. This is very clearly a lost season for the Giants. They will not be making the playoffs and will have little incentive to put him in harm’s way if his injury is anything serious.

He’s not a fantasy starter. He should’ve been dropped two weeks ago. That’s on me. Drop Jones now.

Matt Breida, RB, New York Giants (32% Rostered)

It was a fun two weeks for Matt Breida filling in for Saquon Barkley. That’s over now.

Beyond the fact that Barkley is probably going to return next week, Breida proved this week that he’s no longer a fantasy starter without him. He played just 59% of the snaps this week and was pushed heavily by Eric Gray.

The rookie is more talented than Breida. If Barkley goes down again, it’s probably going to be Gray, who is the better fantasy option. Breida’s time has come and gone on your fantasy team.

Dalvin Cook, RB, New York Jets (69% Rostered)

Jones not being on this list was on me. But Dalvin Cook?! He was here two weeks ago!

Dalvin is completely cooked. He has nothing left and is almost certainly not going to be relevant in the NFL this year. The New York Jets know this as well.

Cook played just 11 snaps against the Denver Broncos. Michael Carter has a defined role on passing downs. Cook, meanwhile, was exclusively used when Breece Hall was tired.

It’s been five weeks, and Cook has a grand total of 74 rushing yards. He’s averaging a hair over 2.0 yards per carry. There is no scenario where Cook will ever be a fantasy starter. He is easily the safest drop on this list.

Jahan Dotson, WR, Washington Commanders (68% Rostered)

Jahan Dotson was one of the most popular breakout candidates entering this season. It’s now been nearly a third of the season, and not only has he failed to launch, he’s pretty much been in reverse.

Dotson has yet to eclipse 40 receiving yards in a single game, and that occurred in Week 1. Since then, his best effort was this past Thursday when he totaled 30 receiving yards.

At this point, there’s no reason to think things will change. Dotson is being thoroughly outplayed by Curtis Samuel, and as fun as Sam Howell is, he is not supporting three fantasy-relevant receivers. I would rather have Samuel than Dotson for the rest of the season. Drop Dotson.

Skyy Moore, WR, Kansas City Chiefs (42% Rostered)

I have spent way too much time the past three months going over why Skyy Moore would not be fantasy-relevant this season. He has seven receptions for 112 yards in five games.

The Kansas City Chiefs use a rotation at wide receiver, with no one ever seeing a 70% snap share. Out of every receiver they deploy, Moore is the least talented.

I couldn’t put Moore on the Week 1 cut list (which was published ahead of Week 1), but I sure was able to put him on the first in-season cut list in Week 2.

Fortunately, the majority of you have seen the light and removed him from your fantasy rosters. However, he is still rostered in far too many leagues. Let’s get that percentage even lower.

Brandin Cooks, WR, Dallas Cowboys (47% Rostered)

Evidently, when a 29-year-old WR shows significant signs of decline, we should believe them. This happened two years ago with Allen Robinson II. Yet, many fantasy managers, myself included, bought into a rebound in a better situation the next season. Nothing could’ve been farther from reality because the talent was no longer there.

Last season, Brandin Cooks showed those same signs of decline. His price in 2023 fantasy drafts wasn’t anywhere near as expensive as Robinson’s in 2022. It was far more understandable to take the shot on a rebound.

Sadly, it’s over for Cooks, too. He has yet to top 27 receiving yards in a game. It feels like it’s only a matter of time before he starts losing snaps to not only Michael Gallup but KaVontae Turpin and Jalen Tolbert. The last place Cooks should be is on your fantasy roster.
