What Time Does Sunday Night Football Start?
Sunday Night Football has been a mainstay on NBC since 2006, and it returns tonight yet again. The Chiefs and Jets kick off at 8:20 p.m. ET on NBC, and Peacock for those without standard cable options.
The Chiefs, especially, Travis Kelce, were all over the media after Taylor Swift was in attendance to watch Kelce at Arrowhead last week. With Swift in attendance again this week, the Chiefs are sure to put on a show. Are the Jets ready for it? Here’s how to watch Sunday Night Football tonight.
Kansas City Chiefs at New York Jets
- Start time: 8:20 p.m. ET
- Channel: NBC
- Live stream option: Peacock
Whenever the Chiefs are in the spotlight, the conversation immediately turns to QB Patrick Mahomes and Kelce. However, while both are playing well, defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo has the Chiefs’ defense in postseason form to begin the year.
The Jets have lost to some formidable opponents in the Dallas Cowboys and New England Patriots, but the Chiefs will test the Jets on both sides. NFL fans have watched Mahomes move Kansas City’s offense at will over the last six years. The Chiefs are going to score tonight. The question is, can the Jets’ offense keep up? With Zach Wilson under center, that answer has been an emphatic no, and his matchup this week won’t make things any easier.
The Jets have scored on 22.9% of their drives this season, the worst in the NFL. Meanwhile, the Chiefs’ defense has allowed offenses to score on 20.6% of drives in 2023, the second-best mark in the league.
Additionally, when the QB has been under pressure since the start of 2022, the Jets have run successful plays on just 19.4% of passing attempts, the third-worst in that span. The Chiefs are pressuring enemy QBs on 26.6% of passing plays, the fifth-best.
Just about any way you look at the numbers, the Chiefs’ defense has the upper hand against a Jets team desperately searching for an answer on offense. The only hope for New York would be forcing some turnovers and getting the defense as much rest as possible, which is a bit difficult for a team with the lowest time of possession in the NFL.
