Sunday Night Football is already expected to be a somewhat ugly affair between the Chiefs and Jets, but based on the current stats, the officials may not help the situation. Alex Kemp’s crew is averaging a total of 21.67 flags per game and 17 accepted penalties per game. However, their home-road splits could help even the game up for the Jets. Kemp’s group is averaging 11 penalties per game on road teams compared to six per game on the home team.
In fact, the entire weekend at MetLife Stadium could be laundry-filled. For the Monday Night Football game between the Giants and Seahawks, Brad Rogers and his crew have the second-most flags per game at 19.33 and 16.67 accepted penalties per contest. However, it is worth noting that they appear to judge games far more evenly, averaging 8.67 penalties per game on home teams compared to 8.0 per game on road teams.
The crew on duty this weekend with the fewest penalties and flags per game are those of John Hussey, Carl Cheffers, and Clete Blakeman. All three crews are averaging 12 total flags per game on average and nine accepted penalties per game. Of those, the most imbalance in terms of home and road splits is the crew of Cheffers, averaging 6.5 penalties per game on road teams, compared to 2.5 on home teams.
