Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields took a hard shot to the head on a play early in the fourth quarter during the Week 3 matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs. Fields was helped off the field and was briefly evaluated by the Bears medical staff. Here’s everything we know at this time.
Justin Fields Injury Update
Down 41-0, Fields was hit near the goal line by Chiefs linebacker Willie Gay. Bears WR DJ Moore noticed that something was off with Fields and immediately went to grab him while signaling to the sideline for help.

After a brief stint in the blue medical tent, Fields returned to the bench and sat with his teammates.
After Fields’ injury, the Bears settled for a 21-yard field goal attempt that Cairo Santos made for Chicago’s first points of the game. Fields then returned on the Bears’ next series and led a 9-play, 75-yard touchdown drive capped off by a 9-yard touchdown pass to DJ Moore to make it 41-10.
Fields had completed 11 of 22 pass attempts for 99 yards, 1 touchdown, and an interception, along with tallying 11 carries for 47 yards at the time of publication.
Fantasy Fallout From Fields’ Injury
From PFN Fantasy Analyst Derek Tate: Fields’ tough outing against the Chiefs was cut short (for a brief time) after exiting the game in the fourth quarter after taking a big shot to the head from linebacker Willie Gay.
Fields failed to generate any points on the scoreboard through the first three quarters prior to his exit. His 42 passing yards made nearly every Bears skill position a bad play in your fantasy lineup in Week 3, even with Moore salvaging it somewhat with a late touchdown reception.
Fields did return to the game, so, likely, it is not a major injury. That said, if, for some reason, Fields cannot go in the coming weeks, Nathan Peterman should be the next man up under center for the Bears. Normally, when a team loses their starting quarterback, it has a negative fantasy impact on the pass catchers.
However, with how much the Chicago offense has struggled with Fields under center, a change under center might have little to no impact on the weekly outlook for DJ Moore, Darnell Mooney, Cole Kmet, and the rest of the pass catchers for the Bears moving forward.
