The Dallas Cowboys have reasons to be hopeful, as some key players ramping up from injury could be back sooner rather than later, possibly just in time for Week 3.
The team had three limited players Wednesday: two did not participate, and one was a full go during Wednesday’s practice as the team was back in their protective shells.
Wednesday’s injury report for the Cowboys shows:
-Jayron Kearse (illness) and Zack Martin (ankle) as the only two that did not participate.
-Brandin Cooks (knee), Chuma Edoga (elbow), and Tyler Smith (hamstring) were all limited.
-Donovan Wilson was a full participant. 👀 pic.twitter.com/Uwc4Y4ZpVZ— Jess Nevarez (@JessNevarez_) September 20, 2023
Dallas Cowboys Injury Report
OL Zack Martin and S Jayron Kearse
Zack Martin, who is dealing with an ankle injury, and Jayron Kearse, who is dealing with an illness, did not participate in Wednesday’s practice.
Head coach Mike McCarthy said Martin would work exclusively with the team’s rehab group during practice and was not seen during the portion open to the media.
Martin rolled his ankle during Sunday’s contest against the Jets, which took him out of the game for precautionary measures.
Owner Jerry Jones spoke on 105.3 The Fan earlier this week and said Martin’s injury should not impact his playing time.
As for Kearse, there was no further information available for what illness he is dealing with at the moment.
S Donovan Wilson
Donovan Wilson could make his season debut sooner rather than later.
The safety was a full participant at practice after being limited last week, showing that he has been ramping up toward a return.
It will be interesting to see how close Wilson is to returning as the week comes to an end.
WR Brandin Cooks, OL Tyler Smith, and OL Chuma Edoga
Brandin Cooks, Tyler Smith, and Chuma Edoga were limited during practice. Cooks is coming off a sprained MCL he sustained during Week 1’s matchup against the New York Giants.
Although Jones said Cooks was close to playing Sunday against the New York Jets, the decision was made to keep him off the field.

Smith sustained a hamstring injury at practice before the team’s first regular-season game. He was not dressed out for practice last week and did not participate, so this is a step up from how the week ended.
As for Edoga, he is dealing with an elbow injury that happened late in Sunday’s game as he was filling in for Smith at left guard. Having him add depth to the position, even if Smith returns, would be ideal.
