UPDATE (1:58 p.m.): Metcalf returned to the sideline midway through the second quarter and then to the game a short time later.
Regardless, it’s the second consecutive week that a Seahawks receiver has had to depart a game.
Tyler Lockett suffered a concussion against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 1 but cleared the NFL’s protocols in time for Week 2.
Metcalf had posted two receptions for 34 yards before leaving. He got Seattle to Detroit’s 1-yard line with a 16-yard catch, and Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker III eventually scored several plays later.
With Metcalf sidelined, Lockett and first-round rookie Jaxon Smith-Njigba will become Geno Smith’s primary options in the passing game.
Fantasy Impact of DK Metcalf Injury
Metcalf narrowly missed scoring on the first drive before suffering a ribs injury. He was off to a strong start (a pair of 15+ yard receptions), but his departure opens up roughly a 25% target share.
The Seahawks brought in Jaxon Smith-Njigba, and he impressed in his debut by earning five targets in a fully functional offense. He led the team in first-quarter targets this week and would profile as a top-36 receiver should Metcalf miss time.
