DK Metcalf Injury Update: What We Know About the Seattle Seahawks WR

DK Metcalf headed to the locker room in Week 2. What happened to the Seattle Seahawks WR, and what's his current injury status?

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf left Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions with an injury in the first quarter, departing the field for the locker room. What happened to Metcalf in Week 2, and what is the standout pass catcher’s current injury status?

    DK Metcalf Injury Update

Metcalf suffered a ribs injury against the Lions on Sunday. The Seahawks have since announced he’s questionable to return.

UPDATE (1:58 p.m.): Metcalf returned to the sideline midway through the second quarter and then to the game a short time later.

Regardless, it’s the second consecutive week that a Seahawks receiver has had to depart a game.

Tyler Lockett suffered a concussion against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 1 but cleared the NFL’s protocols in time for Week 2.

Metcalf had posted two receptions for 34 yards before leaving. He got Seattle to Detroit’s 1-yard line with a 16-yard catch, and Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker III eventually scored several plays later.

With Metcalf sidelined, Lockett and first-round rookie Jaxon Smith-Njigba will become Geno Smith’s primary options in the passing game.

Fantasy Impact of DK Metcalf Injury

Metcalf narrowly missed scoring on the first drive before suffering a ribs injury. He was off to a strong start (a pair of 15+ yard receptions), but his departure opens up roughly a 25% target share.

The Seahawks brought in Jaxon Smith-Njigba, and he impressed in his debut by earning five targets in a fully functional offense. He led the team in first-quarter targets this week and would profile as a top-36 receiver should Metcalf miss time.
