2023 has been a rough start for the elite tight ends in the NFL. Fantasy football managers were left scrambling in Week 1 when several big-name tight ends were unable to suit up. One of these TEs was the Baltimore RavensMark Andrews.

    Latest News Surrounding Mark Andrews

After missing Week 1, Andrews was limited in practice the first three days of Week 2. The quadriceps injury that had Andrews out for the entirety of the preseason and much of training camp was worse than originally let on by the Ravens organization. For weeks it was just a mystery injury, and fans were told not to hit the panic button.

But good news came on Friday as Andrews was able to participate fully in Ravens practice. His official designation for Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals is questionable. But the tight end practicing fully a few days before the inter-divisional matchup is certainly a good sign.

    Will Andrews Play This Week?

The Ravens certainly were careful with Andrews and wanted to bring him back slowly. Whether the decision to sit him last week had anything to do with an inferior opponent in the Arizona Cardinals coming to town is not known. But the Ravens weren’t willing to risk anything in Week 1.

With Andrews practicing fully on Friday, I would be very surprised if he didn’t suit up on Sunday. Barring any setback between now and game time, Andrews should play in Week 2.

What Does This Mean for Andrews’ Fantasy Ranking?

Andrews playing would obviously be a leg up for fantasy teams everywhere that have the tight end on their roster. He has been fantastic in recent years and has a strong connection with his quarterback, Lamar Jackson.

However, I would be a little skeptical that Andrews will have elite numbers right away this Sunday. He has not been fully involved in football activities for very long and is still getting back to game speed. Andrews is a talented veteran, but it takes every player some time to gear up after an injury.

What will be very interesting to see is how targets are distributed if Andrews plays. The tight end has been Jackson’s favorite target for years. But in Week 1 without Andrews, Jackson targeted rookie wide receiver Zay Flowers 10 times. No other Baltimore pass catcher saw more than three targets.

If Andrews is playing, you have to start him on your fantasy team. Unless you are lucky enough to have Travis Kelce and Andrews both rostered, Andrews will easily be your best tight end option for Sunday, slightly injured or not.
