Fifteen games are in the books for Week 1, with just two teams left to make their 2023 NFL regular season debuts. Which NFL teams play tonight in Week 1’s Monday Night Football’s divisional matchup?
The AFC East takes center stage as the Buffalo Bills hope to spoil Aaron Rodgers’s first regular-season start for the New York Jets in MetLife Stadium. Let’s look at the Week 1 Monday Night Football matchup, including the start time, TV channel, and live stream options.
Which NFL Teams Play Tonight on Monday Night Football?
The Bills and Jets kick off 2023 divisional play for the AFC East in what should be an extremely competitive year. The Jets’ decision to trade with the Green Bay Packers for Rodgers completely changed the expectations of New York’s roster heading into the 2023 season. Despite losing LB Tremaine Edmunds, the Bills are still the team to beat in the division after winning the division the last three seasons.
However, if the Jets want to win the division, New York will have to go from worst to first this season after finishing behind the Miami Dolphins and New England Patriots, who made offseason improvements. These matchups will go a long way in deciding the final playoff seedings in a highly competitive division. Let’s look at how to watch tonight’s Monday Night Football matchup.

While the Jets have a ways to go before New York can say they are the AFC East Champions, the Bills have a juggernaut to be the top team in the AFC East and compete with the best of the best in the AFC.
The journey started in 2017 when Buffalo hired head coach Sean McDermott after parting ways with Rex Ryan the previous season. He would lead the Bills to a 9-7 record and clinch the AFC’s sixth seed in his first season, the first playoff berth for Buffalo in 18 years. Buffalo would turn around and draft Wyoming QB Josh Allen seventh overall in the 2018 NFL Draft to become the new face of the franchise under center.
The first two seasons were rough, but then came the move that completely changed his trajectory: The Bills traded with the Minnesota Vikings for WR Stefon Diggs in the 2020 offseason. Not only did this move give Allen’s game a complete makeover from presumed bust to MVP candidate, but Diggs has never played better in his career. He’s been three straight Pro Bowls and was first-team All-Pro in 2020 with 127 receptions for 1,535 yards and eight touchdowns.
Since being added to the roster, Diggs has led the Bills with the most receiving yards and touchdowns, excluding Allen. Diggs amassed 30 touchdowns during his first five seasons with the Vikings; he’s already matched that total in three seasons, with the Allen-to-Diggs connection finding the end zone 29 times already. It’s overtly evident the Bills offense run through these two.
With Allen healed from his elbow injury in 2022 and Diggs determined to make the Super Bowl, this combo will be looking to give the Jets defense everything they’ve got. 2022 Defensive Rookie of the Year Sauce Gardner will undoubtedly guard Diggs but don’t be surprised to see the veteran find ways to create space.
