Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Jakobi Meyers took a scary hit to the head during Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos. What happened to Meyers, and what’s his status as the Raiders wrap up their first game of the season?

    Jakobi Meyers Injury Update

Broncos safety Kareem Jackson was flagged for his hit on Meyers, who appeared to take a direct hit to the head.

Meyers, playing his first game for the Raiders after signing as a free agent this offseason, stayed down on the field following Jackson’s hit.

Players gathered around Meyers and took a knee as he stayed down. Thankfully, Meyers was able to leave the field, although he did require assistance from multiple trainers.

Meyers was taken straight to the Raiders’ locker room, where he was evaluated for a concussion.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Monday afternoon that Meyers has officially entered the concussion protocol.

Meyers had been the star of Sunday’s game before departing, posting nine receptions for 81 yards while scoring both of the Raiders’ touchdowns. Las Vegas eventually defeated Denver, 17-16.

The 26-year-old Meyers inked a three-year, $33 million deal to join the Raiders this offseason after spending the first four years of his career with the New England Patriots. He topped 50 receptions at 700 yards in each of his final three campaigns in New England.

Hunter Renfrow wasn’t targeted in the win, but we know he has the ability to get open in the slot and thus fill a valuable role next to Davante Adams. The slot job is critical in a Jimmy Garoppolo-led offense. Should Meyers’ injury result in missed time, Renfrow is deserving of your attention on the waiver wire.
