Matt LaFleur has his work cut out for him in 2023. What he has known and become accustomed to in his tenure with the Green Bay Packers is no longer the norm. And with a young inexperienced quarterback in the fold, LaFleur will need to up his game in 2023.
Changing of the Guard in Green Bay
Aaron Rodgers is no longer in Green Bay, and with that comes a changing of guard that looks to shift the Packers’ franchise and its future prospects.
Jordan Love is under center now, and with the new chapter beginning for the Cheese Heads, all eyes will be on LaFleur as he navigates the uncharted territory for his team.
Who Was the Head Coach Before Matt LaFleur?
The head coach who was in charge of the Packers before LaFleur is current Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy. McCarthy was Green Bay’s head coach for a total of 13 seasons from 2006 to 2018.

In those 13 seasons, McCarthy brought the Packers to the playoffs nine times, winning one Super Bowl during his tenure. In 2010, Green Bay faced off against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl XLV. The Packers won, 31-25, and that is the latest championship in Green Bay’s storied history.
What Is LaFleur’s Record With the Packers?
LaFleur became the Packers’ head coach in the 2019 season and has an impressive record of 47-19 during that time frame. With him as the head coach, the team has made it to the playoffs three times and currently has a 2-3 record in those playoff appearances.
Has LaFleur Ever Won a Super Bowl?
For his career, LaFleur has never won a Super Bowl as a head coach. It possibly will be even harder now to do so with back-to-back NFL MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers leaving the team in the offseason to join the New York Jets, setting up the first real chance for young quarterback Jordan Love to get his first chance.
LaFleur is a good coach, and the team has talent. But any time you lose a future Hall of Fame quarterback, things are without question going to be more difficult for you going forward. If LaFleur is able to take this current Packers team to the promised land and hoist a Lombardi Trophy, it may be one of the most impressive feats an NFL coach has ever accomplished.
