“Big Red” continues to lead the new era of Kansas City Chiefs football which has witnessed new astronomical heights.
Andy Reid went from being without a Super Bowl win to becoming a frequent coach in the big game in his second head coaching stop. And in the process, he has built a machine that other NFL teams have tried to either mimic or slow down.
How Long Has Andy Reid Coached the Chiefs?
2023 marks the 10th season Reid has been with the Chiefs.
Reid was part of a deep group of new hires back in 2013. And it was a group that featured names like Chip Kelly (then with the Philadelphia Eagles) and another future Super Bowl winner named Bruce Arians (hired by the Arizona Cardinals).
Who has coached longer than Reid? Four Super Bowl winners — Pete Carroll (13 years), John Harbaugh (15 years), Mike Tomlin (16 years), and the lone head coach who has spent more than two decades with his current team in Bill Belichick (23 years).
Who Was the Head Coach Before Reid?
First, it was Todd Haley who helped end a three-season streak of missing the playoffs.
However, Haley was canned during the 2011 season when the Chiefs fell to 5-8. Romeo Crennel took over on an interim basis and got K.C. to win two of its final three games.
Crennel was granted one more season, but that resulted in a 2-14 finish that led to his dismissal.
What Is Reid’s Record With the Chiefs?
Reid is now one victory away from career coaching win No. 270.
During the regular season, he’s won 247 games. In the postseason, he has earned 22 victories.
But with the Chiefs, Reid is 129-52 overall. He’s won 117 regular-season contests and 12 in the postseason.
Has Reid Ever Won a Super Bowl?
Reid has won a Super Bowl not once but twice with the Chiefs.
And his record in the big game now sits at 2-2 overall. He previously lost in his first appearance in Super Bowl 39 to Belichick and the Pats, who had a young Tom Brady at the time. Then, Reid’s second title game loss was to Brady again, but this time to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Super Bowl 55.

But two seasons after that defeat in Tampa, Reid is back and entering the upcoming year as a defending champ. And with a third Super Bowl win, he’ll join some elite company.
In NFL history, only four head coaches have won the Vince Lombardi Trophy three times or more: Joe Gibbs (Washington), Bill Walsh (San Francisco), Chuck Noll (four with Pittsburgh), and the NFL leader Belichick (six with New England). One more Super Bowl win makes Reid the fifth to reach the three-title plateau.
