Should I Draft Taysom Hill? Saints TE’s Fantasy Outlook in 2023

New Orleans Saints TE Taysom Hill can do a bit of everything. Is he a fantasy football cheat code or a tease entering the 2023 season?

New Orleans Saints QB/TE Taysom Hill is a uniquely gifted player who offers fantasy football upside when presented with the opportunity. Of course, his usage is all over the place. That said, if you’re willing to swallow some risk for a potential massive reward, Hill is an interesting option.

Taysom Hill’s Fantasy Outlook for the 2023 NFL Season

The Saints boast an offense that is set to surprise this season, and that could lead to an increase in scoring opportunities for Hill. Derek Carr replaces Jameis Winston at QB in New Orleans, a move that should elevate the week-to-week floor and add a level of consistency to all involved.

On the pass-catching front, Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed will threaten defenses vertically, while Michael Thomas (if healthy) should handle the middle of the field. Juwan Johnson is a legitimate threat at the tight end position as well, giving Carr a variety of ways of exploiting defenses.

The question, naturally, is fit. How does Hill’s unique skill set find a way to get consistent work?

Is Hill a Good Fantasy Pick?

He’s not. But he does make for a great add if/when injuries occur as the season wears on. My fading of Hill is not based on his ability to produce big weeks; it’s on the predictability of those big weeks.

He’s a weapon that can make the most of very specific matchups; we just rarely have enough insight entering a week (barring injury) to project him to be relevant in fantasy.

Let him go in your draft. Keep an eye on the health of the Saints as a whole, but there’s no sense in drafting him at this point where there aren’t byes for you to navigate and injuries have yet to take over.
