Should I Draft Romeo Doubs? Packers WR’s Fantasy Outlook in 2023

Packers WR Romeo Doubs has flashed this preseason. Can he be fantasy-relevant in a new-look offense without Aaron Rodgers?

Romeo Doubs had his moments as a rookie and will now need to adjust to a new quarterback in Jordan Love. This Green Bay Packers offense figures to be run-heavy, but Love has shown glimpses of promise. Doubs is coming at a significant discount in fantasy football drafts this summer compared to Christian Watson.

Romeo Doubs’ Fantasy Outlook for the 2023 NFL Season

Is the decline of the Packers’ offense being overblown? Before you completely dismiss a secondary WR in Green Bay in the post-Aaron Rodgers era, here are where they checked in a season ago

    • Points Per Game: 21.8 (14th)
    • Yards Per Play: 5.5 (14th)
    • Pass Rate: 58.6% (18th)
    • Red Zone Offense: 51.9% (24th)

This offense was far from productive a season ago and they return much of the same unit with the exception of the quarterback.

Christian Watson’s big-play ability isn’t going to catch anybody off-guard this season, and he’s really the only pass catcher on this offense with any sort of NFL résumé.

The team likes the rookie skill guys that they brought in (Jayden Reed and Luke Musgrave), and the running backs are threats out of the backfield. But this is a team projected to finish with a losing record that could well be forced into throwing the ball more than they want.

Is Doubs a Good Fantasy Pick?

I find myself very much leaning Doubs at cost to Watson. Yes, Watson has the impressive (and unrepeatable) 2022 season under his belt and proved the ability to earn targets from an all-time great. However, consider me skeptical in him outpacing Doubs by as much as the current ADPs suggest.

I’m not using the fact that Doubs was targeted on two of Love’s first three red-zone passes (including a nine-yard TD) as fuel to this fire, but it was good to see that he was comfortable in looking his direction.

If Love is going to succeed in 2023, he needs multiple weapons at his disposal, and with an ADP outside of the first 11 rounds, fantasy managers have already seemingly dismissed Doubs as being part of that.
