Jerry Jones spoke to the media for the first time since Dallas Cowboys linebacker DeMarvion Overshown was ruled out for the season with a torn ACL.
Jones had an extended visit with Overshown, saying he advised him to meet with Cowboys legend Michael Irvin.
DeMarvion Overshown Has Heart Like Michael Irvin
Jones says Overshown has shown the heart and competitiveness he thinks he has in common with Irvin.
“I told him I want him to get with Michael [Irvin] because Michael broke everybody’s mentality of what it was like to rehab when you have a serious injury, and he did that,” said Jones.
Jones was implying about Ivrin’s season-ending ACL injury that he suffered during the Cowboys’ 1989 season. After that, the Cowboys went 1-15, which is still the worst record in franchise history. Irvin was able to return four games into the following season.
Jone said that he could speak for Ivrin in that “[Irvin’s] rehabilitation is what made his career have the level of success that he had because it scared him that he didn’t get to have football after all, and scared him when he got to looking around what life would be without it in his case and it motivated him.”
Jones said that guys with hearts, like Irvin and Overshown, can take a setback and turn it into a positive.
