The Dallas Cowboys Guarantee Another Safety Money in 2023

The Dallas Cowboys have guaranteed safety Jayron Kearse money for the season. How much will he make, and could this impact other deals?

All the players that make up Dallas Cowboys’ three-headed safety monster are financially set for the season.

The Cowboys have guaranteed Jayron Kearse’s base salary of $4 million for 2023, according to a tweet Todd Archer put out crediting Field Yates.

    Jayron Kearse’s Contract Details

In 2022, Kearse signed a two-year deal worth $10 million with a $3.5 million signing bonus and an average annual salary of $5 million.

In 2023, his base salary was $4 million, which is now guaranteed. Anytime a player can get guaranteed money, it gives them less to worry about in the season.

Malik Hooker and Donovan Wilson’s Contracts

Kearse was the last of the three safeties to get guaranteed money for the season. The team signed Donovan Wilson to a three-year contract in March worth $21 million, $13.5 million of which is guaranteed this season.

At the start of camp, the team signed Malik Hooker to a three-year contract worth $21 million, with $16.5 million guaranteed this season.

The Cowboys prioritizing their secondary was the best thing they could have done for the upcoming season.

Kearse, Hooker, and Wilson had 240 combined total tackles in 2022. Wilson had 101 of those tackles and led the defense, 77 of which were solo. Kearse had 55 solo tackles last year, the second-most behind Wilson.

The trio also had five combined interceptions in 2022. Hooker had three, ranking him second on the team behind DaRon Bland for interceptions.

Additionally, Kearse (2) and Wilson (5) had seven combined total sacks in 2022.

Other Possible Cowboys Contracts To Watch Out For

During Zack Martin’s holdout, owner Jerry Jones discussed how money is needed for big contracts to be made, naming Micah Parsons specifically.

“It’s about facts. We need the money to pay Parsons. We need the money to pay the players we want to pay in the future. It’s a fact,” said Jones.

But now, with Martin getting a renegotiated deal done, there could be room for other deals that need to be made sooner rather than later for the Cowboys.

Other guys to watch now are Dak Prescott, Terence Steele, and Tyler Biadasz. New deals are likely to have extensions for the sake of the salary cap, ensuring there is enough money to go around.
