Dallas Cowboys vs. Jacksonville Jaguars Breakdown

    Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jaguars are in their second season under head coach Doug Pederson.

Pederson told NFL Network he is a “big believer in having the starters playing.”

You can anticipate that Trevor Lawrence, Evan Engram, Christian Kirk, and Calvin Ridley will play a couple of series in the game at most.

This will be Ridley’s first game since 2021, as he served a year-long suspension for gambling on NFL games last year.

Quarterback C.J. Beathard is expected to take the snaps at quarterback following Lawrence.

On the defensive side of the ball, they are focused on pressuring quarterbacks on early downs with the depth of the younger players on the team.

    Dallas Cowboys

This is the first time the Cowboys will open the preseason at home since 2011.

Dallas didn’t have any starters play during the preseason last year, which is expected to stay the same this season.

You can expect quarterbacks Cooper Rush and Will Grier to take the snaps throughout Saturday.

All eyes will be on how the offensive line can hold up against the pass rush since that has been a key point of improvement for them during training camp.

The top battles for the second running back and fourth wide receiver spots are still up for grabs, and Saturday could pave the path for guys to take those spots on the final roster.

On the defensive side of the ball, all eyes will be on how well they can stuff the trenches and stop the run. Mazi Smith could also see snaps during this game, so it will be a good glimpse of where he stands, especially as a pass rusher.

Strong rookie classes within the cornerback and safety rooms will indicate how much depth the Cowboys have in the secondary.

The Cowboys will also keep a close eye on kicker Brandon Aubrey as he is the only kicker left on the depth chart.
