Tom Brady is now hitting the water, with his latest investment involving boats.
But it’s a different kind of boat the seven-time Super Bowl champion is investing in. The former New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback struck a new partnership that kicks off in 2024.
Tom Brady and E1 Form a New Partnership
Announced on his Instagram page on Thursday morning, Brady is diving into the world of competitive boat racing by announcing he’s the official owner of his own E1 championship team.
“So excited to be joining the E1 World Championship and honored to be competing against some of the greatest athletes in the world. Throughout my career, I’ve always been synonymous with speed. That’s just what the fans have come to expect,” Brady said on his IG page.
They’ll be known as “Team Brady” when they hit the water and will be among 10 teams featuring mixed-gender pilots. Brady’s drivers will be operating the world’s first all-electric speedboat that comes with a sleek and futuristic design. And according to the website, the boats feature innovative hydrofoil technology. Brady himself is a fan of the boats — better known as the “RaceBird.”
“The boats look amazing,” he says in the video announcing his venture. “[It reaches] 100 kilometers an hour, fully foiling. They’re so very sleek and cool, modern, and exactly what you would think for an electric racing boat on water.”
What Is the E1 Series?
E1 is introducing a new wave of speed racing by going electric and making its own splash.
The website states that “E1 is the first electric raceboat championship sanctioned by the Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM), the world governing body of powerboating. E1 holds an exclusive license with the UIM to promote a racing series on the water powered solely by electric.”
Furthermore, the vision of the E1 Series additionally highlights an aspect involving a cleaner slate for boat racing.
“The championship was established to create a new, competitive on-water racing proposition based on clean technologies to protect our waters and coastal areas,” the website said.
E1 recognizes Norwegian designer Sophi Horne and naval architect/marine engineer Brunello Acampora as two of the men responsible for bringing the E1 vision to fruition. Alejandro Agag and Rodi Basso are two other men credited for helping launch the series. Brady himself became intrigued about the direction of E1 and has chosen to take the wheel of this new venture.
“I think the similar values of what E1 is all about are things that I’ve believed in for a while as well. We want to be the forthcoming champion,” Brady says.
Brady Is Not the Only Superstar Involved With E1
Brady will have some fierce competition in the water — in the form of other championship athletes in their respective sports who have an involvement with E1.
Tennis star Rafael Nadal has his own team. The 22-time Grand Slam champion joined the world of competitive electric boat racing on January 10 and cited the impact E1 plans to have on coastal communities as his reason to join.
Formula 1 driving star Sergio Pérez is another owner in the E1 venture. He was one of the first additions to the realm, as he agreed to join in July 2022. Also, soccer star Didier Drogba — best known for his play at forward for the Phoenix Rising, CF Montreal, and for captaining the Ivory Coast World Cup team — is also a team E1 owner.
Brady, however, already fired off a warning to the trio.
“Be prepared for second, third, or fourth place,” Brady declared. “We’re going for the top. I’ve made history on the field. Now, we’ll become champions of the water.”
E1 begins its debut season in 2024.
