With some turnover on both sides of the ball, Daboll and New York’s front office brought in quite a few new faces. Here’s a look at the New York Giants coaching staff.

New Additions to the New York Giants’ Coaching Staff

The Giants coaching staff saw a major shuffle in the 2024 offseason after failing to replicate the success of Daboll’s first year with the team. Defensive coordinator Wink Martindale and the Giants mutually agreed to part ways, while New York fired special teams coordinator Thomas McGaughey.

Martindale was replaced by former Tennessee Titans defensive coordinator Shane Bowen. For the past three years, Bowen helped the Titans field one of the most suffocating defenses in the league. From 2021 to 2023, Tennessee surrendered the fewest rushing yards in the NFL under Bowen’s direction.

The Giants also poached former offensive coordinator Tim Kelly from Tennessee to serve as New York’s tight ends coach. While the Titans’ passing offense saw its fair share of struggles the past few seasons, Kelly’s work with the TE group was evident. Kelly’s schemes helped the Titans TEs amass 952 receiving yards in 2022, 450 of which came from rookie Chig Okonkwo.

As far as special teams go, the Giants nabbed Michael Ghobrial from the New York Jets to serve as the special teams coordinator. Ghobrial has spent the last three seasons as an assistant on the Jets staff; beforehand, he was a collegiate special teams coordinator for five seasons.

Other new additions to the coaching staff include outside linebackers coach Charlie Bullen, who spent the last two seasons as the linebackers coach and pass rush coordinator for the Illinois Fighting Illini, former Las Vegas Raiders offensive line coach Carmen Bricillo, running backs and 24-year coaching veteran Joel Thomas, and defensive assistant Zak Kuhr.
