It’s Championship Saturday in college football today and as we have done for the past 14 weeks, the Pro Football Network Draft crew will be here today until Midnight EST. The journey towards the 2020 NFL Draft continues, and the schedule for today includes a full gauntlet of games that will affect the College Football Playoffs and the draft stock of many prospects.

LSU defeated Georgia earlier today and Justin Jefferson, a guy who I have been high on in the past, went off today. I truly believe that Jefferson is one of the top 50 players and a top ten wide receiver in the 2020 NFL Draft Class.
Jefferson might not be an eye-popping athlete, but his technical ability is phenomenal. Combined with natural great quickness, Jefferson is a great route runner and can make guys look silly in the open field. Add in a diverse route tree and Jefferson will likely be picked in the top three rounds in April. After going for 115 yards and a touchdown today, that case is only strengthened. NF

Yeah, this is not the Tee Higgins of last year. Based on his breakout performance this season, I would guess that the Clemson junior wide receiver will likely enter the draft.
Coming into the season, we all knew about his ability to come down with contested catches more often than not because of how physical he is. With already great size and body control, he was simply someone who could just bully others around. But now, he has added some serious finesse to his game. He looks quicker, has better releases, and runs sharper routes. And, that ability to separate is going to be invaluable to his success. NF

I have said it multiple times throughout this very live blog and pieces I have written, but wow, I am so impressed by John Hightower every time I watch a Boise State game. The guy is a walking home run – there is no other way to put it other than that.
Today against Hawaii, he made a phenomenal contested catch along the sideline. Because he had such great body control, he was able to stay in bounds and take it to the house.
Hightower’s ability to separate and win the deep ball, but also be able to threaten the middle of the field with his speed, makes him a great mismatch. Not only that, but his yards after catch ability to just win in the open field is fantastic. Hightower is a day two talent and someone who is not getting enough attention right now. NF

After what I have seen all season and today, I have decided that CeeDee Lamb is the best wide receiver prospect in this upcoming draft. Yes, I still love Jerry Jeudy and I think what he does is phenomenal, but I just have not seen the level of progression from him that I have from Lamb.
Both are going to be very good when it comes to the offseason test numbers, but Lamb has gone from great route runner and freak last year to a level of effortlessness this year that I appreciate. I make it a point to point out the ‘efficiency’ of running routes and releases because great receivers make running routes and separating look so easy. Lamb has now gotten to that level of advanced receiver play and I think he is an absolute star. He is a slam dunk pick at the next level. NF

JK Dobbins is such a fascinating evaluation. He was fantastic as a freshman, nothing special as a sophomore, but this year, he is back on his stuff. Dobbins has the athletic traits needed to be an NFL running back, and that primarily comes in his elite lateral quickness. You want know why he can make such quick cuts? Yeah, there is your answer.
Dobbins has not been a great pass protector, which is something that not many people pay enough attention to. It could keep him off the field early in his NFL career on obvious passing downs simply because he could get your quarterback crushed by a defender coming in on a blitz. Still, Dobbins is such an impressive runner and really has shown off soft hands. There are questions with him, but you have to love his skillset. And his play tonight has only strengthened my thoughts on him. NF

The unsung hero of the Wisconsin offensive line tonight thus far has been mauling guard Tyler Biadasz. Biadasz was a guy that many expected to come out last year, but he went back after receiving bad feedback from the competition committee.
Biadasz looks like such a natural smooth athlete in space. His ability to pull and log and then reach block is the best in the class from what I have seen. Biadasz plays with the mentality and functional strength to drive guys right into the dirt. He has great feet and moves well. His hands are violent. This is a guy who could go in the first round and no one would blame a team for doing it. He is a top interior offensive line prospect. NF

Jonathan Taylor is fantastic. A great combination of athleticism, vision, footwork, and contact balance. My fellow PFN draft writer AJ Schulte has told me in the past that he thinks Taylor is Ezekiel Elliott all over again, and I have to say, their skillsets are incredibly similar.
He has powered Wisconsin to where they are now in the season and is fighting for the top running back slot in this draft. Taylor is going to go really early and could be the first running back off the board. With Ohio State surging back, they will have to lean on Taylor going forward. NF

Cue the comeback music! The Buckeyes are back within one score after a drive which included an impressive connection between Justin Fields and Chris Olave, as well as a one-handed touchdown grab by sophomore tight end Jeremy Ruckert. Ohio State has too much talent to be left in the dust. Because of this, the pressure will be on Wisconsin to maintain their lead while they still have it. It sounds simple, but it isn’t. IC

Clemson has a comfortable lead with the third quarter in the books. They’re up on the Virginia Cavaliers 45-14, and they’ve ridden standout performances from Trevor Lawrence and Tee Higgins. Clemson, once penciled in as playoff contenders, can now change their font to Sharpie. They did what they were supposed to do tonight. IC

The Cavaliers still have a ways to go before they’re back in the ACC Championship game, but Bryce Perkins scored a 20-yard touchdown to cut into the deficit a little bit, making it 38-14 in the third quarter. Perkins has been touted as a mid-to-late-round quarterback prospect, with solid athleticism and playmaking ability. He’s shown that today in spite of his team’s struggles. IC

On a goal line run set up by Cephus’ outstanding red zone grab, Jack Coan snuck it into the end zone, getting his second rushing touchdown of the day. The Badgers are now up 21-7 with the half winding down. No lead is safe against Justin Fields and the Buckeyes, but being ahead by 14 at the half is nothing to complain about. IC

Can you say, “He got mossed?” Jack Coan just shot an under-thrown ball in Cephus’ direction, and Cephus did an impeccable job of adjusting in midair, winning the catch point battle, and falling forward into the pylon to maximize his gain. He didn’t get into the end zone, but Cephus displayed excellent flexibility and athleticism to position himself for a big play. IC

Onlookers are getting spoiled by this running back battle. On one play, Dobbins uses a vertical burst to break into the end zone and give Ohio State their first touchdown. Then, early on the next drive, Wisconsin’s Jonathan Taylor used his contact balance and acceleration to shoot up the sideline for a huge gain. These two running backs might be two of the top four ball carriers in the 2020 NFL Draft. IC

Ohio State right guard Wyatt Davis is down. That’s not good for an offensive line that’s already allowed a substantial amount of pressure against Wisconsin’s front. Davis walked off on his own power, but if he can’t come back, it’ll be a big blow for a Buckeyes blocking unit that’s struggling so far. On the first play after Davis’ injury, the Buckeyes used a quick pass to mitigate pressure concerns. With a number of quick pass catchers at their disposal, that’s the way to go. IC

Let’s just appreciate Ohio State’s receiving core for a moment. K.J. Hill, Binjimen Victor, and Austin Mack, all draft eligible in 2020, have made plays so far this half. There’s also Chris Olave and true freshman Garrett Wilson to look forward to in the coming years. With Michael Thomas, Terry McLaurin, and Parris Campbell bolstering the team’s NFL ranks, this is a pipeline, through and through. IC

Ohio State was knocking on the door, and then, in a flash, they coughed the ball up to the Wisconsin Badgers in the red zone. Wisconsin junior defensive end Isaiahh Loudermilk notched a strip sack on Justin Fields, using his 6-foot-7 wingspan to wrench the ball from his hands. Fields has clearly been rattled by the pressure early, and it’s impacting his confidence to execute effectively. Wisconsin, as a result, has a chance to go into the half with a three-possession lead. High-upside receiver alert: Binjimen Victor is an excellent size-speed athlete for the Buckeyes, and he just capitalized on Ohio State’s fourth-down conversion with a 21-yard grab. He has a ton of potential at the next level, even if he’s too raw to invest a high pick in at the moment. Just another addition to an incredibly deep receiver class. IC

Wisconsin has completely out-coached Ohio State so far in this one, and they’ve also won the battle in the trenches. Badgers edge rusher Zach Baun just sacked Justin Fields, and he and Chris Orr have been confounding the Buckeyes quarterback all day long so far. The interior rush has been productive as well, and while Ohio State did just convert a fake punt to keep their offense on the field, sustaining an organic drive is a tough ask at the moment. IC

Tee Higgins has been one of the more polarizing high-profile wide receiver prospects this year, but if there was ever a game to vault him into the first round for good, it’s this one. Through just two quarters, Higgins has seven receptions for 117 yards and two scores, as the Clemson Tigers lead 31-7. Higgins’ power and balance at the catch point has been evident, but he’s also shown an element after the catch, breaking tackles and boasting unheralded speed. He’s showing out on the national stage, where no one can look away. IC

Captain Jack is taking over in Indianapolis. Jack Coan just ran a quarterback keeper into the end zone from past the ten yard line, extending the Badgers’ lead over the Buckeyes to 14-0. Onlookers once called for Coan’s benching at the hands of Graham Mertz, but Coan is silencing doubters against Ohio State today. He can move better than he gets credit for, and his confidence has Wisconsin rolling so far. IC

The name “Jack Coan” isn’t synonymous with the nation’s top quarterbacks, but Coan has been good today, showing good poise and awareness in the pocket in pressure spots. He just struck Quintez Cephus for a key third-down conversion, and he’s done a good job extending plays and giving receivers opportunities for RAC yards with his ball placement. Cephus has also done a nice job getting separation against Ohio State’s vaunted secondary. IC

Clemson’s lead is up to 24-7 now, courtesy of a massive touchdown run by Travis Etienne. Etienne is best known for his truly outrageous second gear, but he also has the contact balance and short-range burst to make the most out of limited space. On that score, he showed just that, and now he has his Tigers poised to pull away. Etienne will be one of the first running backs off the board in the 2020 NFL Draft, and that’s no accident. IC

The speed is the first thing that stands out for Ohio State’s JK Dobbins, but he’s truly morphed into a complete running back this season. He’s 217 pounds at 5-foot-10, and he has the energy and perseverance to make yards where no yards are present. Such was the case on a fourth-down carry where the Buckeyes entrusted Dobbins with picking up the first down. Dobbins delivered, using a second-effort burst to reach past the line. Now, the Buckeyes are looking to tie it up. IC

Ohio State wide receiver Austin Mack just grabbed a tough sideline catch to convert a large chunk of field for the Buckeyes. Mack, a senior, contorted his upper body and had the focus to haul in the pass one-handed. Standing at 6-foot-2, 215, he represents the unrelenting depth of the 2020 wide receiver class. Everyone knows the big names at the top, but in the middle and later rounds, plenty of potentially solid contributors like Mack could be found. IC

Clemson-Virginia is basically going how people expected it to go. Although there was a modest belief that the Cavaliers would make it interesting, they’re in danger of falling behind big as the Tigers lead 17-7, and just forced another punt. Clemson’s offensive core of Trevor Lawrence, Travis Etienne, Justyn Ross, and Tee Higgins are already putting up big numbers. Only Etienne and Higgins are prospects this year, but Lawrence and Ross are just as electric, if not more so. IC

Don’t look now, but the Wisconsin Badgers are up 7-0 over Ohio State in the Big Ten Championship. Jonathan Taylor scored a long touchdown with a trademark broken tackle and his underrated top-end speed. On the ensuing Buckeyes offensive bid, Justin Fields was stopped on fourth down, causing a turnover on downs. Wisconsin was a heavy underdog coming into this one, but they have more talent than people realize. They’re off to a hot start; can they keep it up? IC

While rest will help for some injuries, Georgia is facing a tough situation heading into their bowl game. With added injuries, combined with the down game Jake Fromm had today, and his inconsistent overall play this season, it would be surprising if they are favored, regardless of the opponent. Despite the great talent they have, there is a very real chance the Bulldogs head into the offseason with back-to-back losses, barring major adjustments to their play in all three aspects. RR

One storyline to watch tonight that has not been given much attention in the Wisconsin/Ohio State game is the play of the Buckeyes’ linebackers. They struggled all game last week versus Michigan and have been inconsistent throughout the season. If the linebackers struggle early on, that will give the Badgers an opportunity to second guess the Buckeyes’ defensive plan as they try to figure if a Taylor carry, play-action pass, or something else is coming their way. Coming up shortly is the Big Ten Championship. Once we knew of the matchup, one notable storyline that stood out was the running back battle between Jonathan Taylor versus J.K. Dobbins. While it will be interesting to see how each performs, but regardless, one game won’t change their draft stocks. Taylor is currently my top running back prospect and that won’t change (for the time being) if he struggles tonight. What may or eventually could is in part the workload Taylor has been given while in Madison. RR

Tonight versus Clemson, Virginia will have to pick their poison between Tee Higgins, Travis Etienne, and company to stay in the game and attempt an upset. RR

If you haven’t had the chance to watch the Bearcats today (or this season), I highly recommend watching their bowl game and any games you can catch from earlier this season. Their running back, Michael Warren, is not on the level of, say, Ohio State’s J.K. Dobbins, but he is a prospect worth watching during the draft process. He’s a late third/fourth-round option for me, a little higher than Tony’s grade that he mentioned earlier. Today versus Memphis, Warren has put up 99 yards and two touchdowns thus far. RR

LSU running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire has been a nice surprise this year. He was a solid runner last season but was far from the special runners we had gotten accustomed to seeing at LSU. However, this year CEH has been special. His game against Alabama put him on everyone’s radar. He showed a lot of talent as both a runner and receiver, and he’ll be a nice addition on late-day 2/early day 3. MV

Memphis WR Damonte Coxie has been a weapon all year and projects well to the NFL. His 6’3 frame combined with his explosive athletic ability makes him a player many teams will keep their eyes on, and he’s delivered. Last week he had 145 yards and a touchdown; through three quarters tonight Coxie he has matched those 145 yards. Coxie could be a riser throughout the draft process. MV

As quick as I am to praise Burrow, I’ll be just as quick to criticize. Burrow has had a number of passes today that felt underwhelming or underthrown. The biggest concern with Burrow is whether or not he has an “NFL arm.” He can put solid velocity on the throw but he has a tendency to occasionally under throw deeper routes. MV

Adding to what Tony wrote earlier, Joe Burrow isn’t just a great passer under pressure, he’s an excellent runner. Burrow isn’t an elite athlete but it’s more than enough. His feel for pressure is unreal and his ability to dodge a free rusher and get out in space is excellent. MV

LSU safety Grant Delpit was in on that sack. Delpit came into the season as the top player in the class. He’s had a down season, many believe due to injury, but he showed what I had initially seen in him there. He’s a do it all player made in a similar mold to Chargers standout Derwin James. Jake Fromm has struggled today. I’m concerned with what his ceiling is in the NFL. He lacks prototypical size, athletic ability, and arm strength. As Georgia has lost its top receivers throughout the season, you can see a massive decline in Fromm’s play. It looks as though he’ll never be a passer that elevates the players around him. It seems he’ll only be as good as the team he’s on. MV

Joe Burrow’s decision making and ability to make quick decisions under duress (decisions which are right on the money more often than not) is most impressive. His poise under the rush and ability to see the field, make proper reads, and spread the ball around will excite next level decision-makers. TP

The AAC title game features a good match-up between running backs with similar styles. Michael Warren of Cincinnati and Patrick Taylor of Memphis, mentioned a little earlier in this blog, are pound it out type of backs who pick up a lot of yardage off contact. Timing in life is everything. Prior to the kick-off of the SWAC title game, I mentioned the name of Javen Morrison, a sleeper at cornerback and as a return specialist. Morrison just returned a punt 89 yards for a touchdown to tie the game for Alcorn State. He displayed blazing speed and Morrison was gone once he hit the open field. TP

I mentioned during my preview of the SEC Title Game, I moved Jake Fromm into the last day of the draft, and you’re seeing why.
Despite having open receivers on critical third-down plays to keep drives alive, Fromm missed his targets and Georgia was forced to punt. On that last missed pass, his offensive line did a good job giving him time and protecting him despite an all-out blitz by LSU. TP

That was just a great blitz pick-up on the LSU defensive back by Georgia right tackle Isaiah Wilson. I’ve been much higher on the big tackle than most and grade him as a potential late first-round pick. TP

Memphis running back Patrick Taylor will have a decision to make soon. The fourth-year senior came into the season with high grades from NFL scouts. However, today’s AAC title game is just his fourth appearance of the season as he’s struggled with injuries all year. Taylor could potentially apply for a fifth season of eligibility. If he decides to opt for the draft he’s a late-round pick. TP

Boise State and Hawaii are just about to kick-off in the Mountain West title game. This could be the final conference game for Curtis Weaver and Ezra Cleveland of the Broncos as both are heavily leaning towards entering the draft. I presently grade both as second-day picks, though pre-draft testing will be important for each. TP

The SWAC title game is about to kick off and not a single player from either Southern or Alcorn State was graded by scouts coming into the season. But the Braves of Alcorn have two players that have garnered the interest of the scouting community.
Receiver Chris Blair has turned heads with his big play ability. Blair leads Alcorn State with 36 receptions, 776 receiving yards and six TDs. Blair has good size (6-feet-2-inches, 195 pounds) and legitimate next-level speed.
Corner Javen Morrison is also getting noticed. He’s a smaller but explosive corner who can line-up as a dime back/return specialist. TP

The Sun Belt title game finished a lot closer than anyone thought as Appalachian State held on for a seven-point victory. Linebacker Akeem Davis-Gaither, whom I mentioned in my game preview, had a terrific contest posting a team-leading 10 tackles.
As I mentioned, he’s a tremendous run and chase linebacker that’s already accepted an invitation to the Senior Bowl. I’ll be watching for his ability in coverage during those one-on-one drills against tight ends and running backs, as well as the one-on-one blocking drills against the running backs/fullbacks/tight end in Mobile. TP

Boy have we got a barn-burner going in the Big 12 title game!
In a lot of ways, it’s the reverse of the regular-season game as Baylor continually comes from behind. While many keep talking about Bears defensive end James Lynch who has recorded four tackles, four TFL’s and two sacks this afternoon, I continue to be impressed with his teammate Bravvion Roy.
Roy, who has five tackles today, was graded as a UDFA prior to the season but will compete for a spot in the late rounds. A former riser, Roy is a relatively athletic nose tackle prospect who can occupy the gapes or make plays on the ball. TP

South Dakota State is shutting down the usually explosive Northern Iowa offense as we are at the midway point of the third quarter. Linebacker Christian Rozeboom, graded as a PFA entering the season, just had a big sack for the Jackhammers and NIU is now punting the ball. Rozeboom, a three-year captain at SDSU, leads the defense with 101 tackles and also has two INTs and one safety to his credit.
He has average size/speed numbers (6-feet-2-inches, 230 pounds, 4.78s) but plays with great instincts and intensity. I could definitely see Rozeboom making an NFL roster next fall as an 8th linebacker/special teams player. TP

Louisiana is trying to claw back in the Sun Belt title game but is still down to Appalachian State by 18 points. Rajin Cajun receiver Ja’Marcus Bradley is starting to come to life and just made a nice touchdown reception in the corner of the end zone.
I grade Bradley as a late-round pick. He’s a dependable pass-catcher who lacks great computer numbers but does enough things well at the position to line up as a number five receiver at the next level. TP

The second round of the FCS/IAA playoffs begin today and there are a number of prospects I’ll be keeping an eye on. Monmouth is making a game of it against James Madison, a team with four next-level prospects: quarterback Ben DiNucci, receiver who’ll turn tight end, Riley Stapleton, defensive end Ron’Dell Carter and pass rusher John Daka.
DiNucci is a sleeper prospect and a former riser I mentioned months ago. Scouts who have gone through JMU have come away impressed. Carter has already received an NFLPA invitation.
Stapleton lines up at receiver for JMU but has the size and style to switch to tight end. Despite being suspended three games this season he’s still recorded 38 receptions, 433 receiving yards and 6 TDs. Last year the numbers included 62/710/7.
Daka is a major sleeper. His numbers this year include 49 tackles, 20.5 TFLs and 12.5 sacks. I’m told Daka, who lines up at defensive end but has linebacker size, will test off the charts during pro-day (4.5/forty, 40-inch vertical jump).
Neither Stapleton nor Daka have been invited to a postseason all-star game yet but I think a trip to the Hula Bowl is in the cards. TP

Though he’s turned the ball over a few times today and ball security is something Jalen Hurts must work on, I continue to be impressed with his development and progress from thrower to passer. It seems to be clicking for Hurts between the ears. You have to be impressed with the way he spreads the ball around, sees the field and, for the most part, stays away from bad choices.
Just think of where Hurts was rated as a next-level prospect one year ago, compared to how he ranks today. TP

Compared to the other conference title games underway, we’ve got a bit of a defensive struggle going on in the MAC between Miami (Ohio) and Central Michigan.
There are four Redhawk defenders to keep an eye on starting with defensive tackle Doug Costin, a three-technique prospect who came into the season graded as a PFA. Thus far, Costin has accounted for three tackles, one TFL and .5 sack as the first half closes out.
The other three can be found in the secondary including former riser Mike Brown, a junior safety, another underclassman in corner Manny Rugamba and senior corner Travion Banks. TP

Appalachian State has held Ja’Marcus Bradley of Louisiana to a single catch for nine yards as we move into the second quarter. Bradley, who’s headed to the Shrine Game, has been a lethal weapon for the Rajin Cajuns this season. TP

I’m told like CeeDee Lamb, Sooners linebacker Kenneth Murray will also enter the draft and why not? His style is what NFL teams want in a linebacker these days; slightly undersized but quick, explosive and a defender who plays sideline to sideline. I do believe Murray could slide into the late part of round one next April. TP

As I mentioned during my Sun Belt preview, App State running back Darrynton Evans, who just took a screen pass 58 yards for a score that put the Mountaineers up early, will sit down after this game and gather information for his next-level decision. Right now, I think it’s better than 50/50 Evans enters the draft. TP

The loss by Utah last night means this game has huge ramifications for Oklahoma, who could sneak into the college football playoffs with a win. Baylor will look for redemption after their collapse to the Sooners just a few weeks ago.
NFL teams will want to see how Baylor responds as BU head coach Matt Rhule is one of the hottest head coaching names in league circles as the regular season enters its final month. TP

We can’t wait for a full slate of exciting games today. As noted above, some will have an impact on the College Football Playoffs while others will determine bowl games. Additionally, these games are a great chance for 2020 NFL Draft prospects to showcase their skills to a large audience.
Throughout the week, the PFN Draft Crew has published previews of most of today’s games, along with prospect rankings for those playing in the game. Last night, Oregon Ducks QB Justin Herbert led his team to victory over the Utah Utes, 35-17. I wrote a preview for the game and listed my prospect rankings.
