The 2014 NFL Draft results were very similar to what would become of the 2022 NFL Draft. It was a decidedly weak quarterback class. Anytime a QB is not selected No. 1 overall, it’s a good indication that the overall class is weak.
For example, in 2023, in what is considered a stronger quarterback class, even when the holder of the No. 1 overall pick doesn’t need a quarterback, someone will move up to that spot to grab one.
That didn’t happen in 2014. The first QB didn’t go until third overall, and it was largely panned as an unwise decision by the Jacksonville Jaguars to overdraft Blake Bortles. The best players from this draft were edge rushers and skill-position players.
The likes of Mike Evans, Khalil Mack, Odell Beckham Jr., and Aaron Donald were all first-round picks. In contrast, two of the three quarterbacks selected in Round 1 are out of the league, and the third is a journeyman backup. Who else was drafted in 2014?
