Eastern Michigan 2023 NFL Draft Scouting Reports
Jose Ramirez, EDGE
Strengths: Underrated pass rusher who also makes plays in space. Very quick and fluid and plays with a sense of urgency. Breaks down well, effectively uses his hands, and moves well laterally. Consistently gets leverage on opponents, plays with outstanding pad level, and keeps his feet moving.
Forceful up the field and plays faster than his 40 time. Shows good change-of-direction ability and gets out into space to pursue plays. Rarely off his feet. Remains disciplined with assignments and does more than just pin his ears back and rush upfield. Intense and chases the action hard. Very sudden and flashes on the scene.

Weaknesses: Lacks bulk, gets out-positioned by opposing linemen, and struggles to disengage from tight end blocks. Doesn’t show great pursuit speed. Minimally effective in space.
Overall: Ramirez is a hard-charging, pass-rush specialist who can stand over tackle, come out of a three-point stance, and make plays laterally. He needs to get a bit stronger, but he comes with an upside and has a special-teams mentality.

Sidy Sow, OL
Strengths: Wide-bodied offensive guard who flashed dominance the past three seasons. Fires off the snap, bends his knees, and quickly gets his hands into opponents. Explosive at the point and knocks defenders from the line, opening up running lanes. Keeps his head on a swivel and is always looking for someone to hit.
Engulfs defenders and takes them from the action. Quick to the second level, squares into linebackers, and out-positions them from the action. Stays square, fights with his hands, and anchors in pass protection. Always looking for someone to hit.
Weaknesses: Off balance and overextends. Lacks footwork in space. A little too large and isn’t properly conditioned.
Overall: Sow had an up-and-down career at Eastern Michigan, yet he played solid football last season and built on the flashes he displayed as a sophomore. He possesses outstanding size, long arms, and better-than-advertised athleticism, which should enable him to find a spot on a roster that employs either a power-gap or zone-blocking system.
