Our rookie scouting reports combine film and analytics to provide the best possible predictions for player performance. With the 2023 NFL Draft less than a month away, let’s take a look at the scouting report for Charlotte wide receiver Grant Dubose.
Grant Dubose NFL Draft Profile

Dubose was a zero-star recruit out of Park Crossing High School in Montgomery, Alabama. His journey to getting a Combine invite and possibly being drafted was quite unconventional.
Unable to secure a Division I offer, Dubose chose to play college football at Divison II Miles College.
As a freshman, Dubose didn’t have much of an opportunity to prove himself. Despite appearing in 10 games, he caught just eight passes for 104 yards and a touchdown. Essentially, his entire freshman season was the equivalent of one really good game.

While most major Division I programs were able to play some football in 2020, Miles College was not.
As what can only be described as a testament to his character and dedication, despite minimal production as a freshman and missing what would have been his entire sophomore season due to COVID, Dubose was able to transfer to Charlotte for the 2021 season.
Even securing a spot on an FCS program would’ve been an accomplishment. Dubose was able to get himself into a Divison I FBS school.
Dubose burst onto the scene, catching 62 passes for 892 yards and six touchdowns as a redshirt sophomore.
Last year, in what would be his senior season, Dubose caught 64 balls for 792 yards and nine scores.
Overall, he finished his two years at Charlotte with 24 games played, 125 receptions, 1,679 yards, and 15 touchdowns.
Tony Pauline’s Scouting Report for Grant Dubose
Strengths: Nice-sized receiver with long arms, big hands, and a dependable game. Sells routes, plays with balance as well as body control, and is very smooth. Natural catching the ball, adjusts to the errant throw, and takes a heavy hit, but holds on to the pass. Comes back to the quarterback and works to make himself an available target.
Consistently catches the ball with his hands and snatches the pass out of the air away from his frame. Uses his large frame to shield away defenders, displays eye/hand coordination, and gives effort running after the catch. Effective downfield blocker.
Weaknesses: Does not show a burst. Plays to one speed and isn’t a vertical threat. Marginal run-after-the-catch ability.
Overall: DuBose was a productive wideout the past two seasons at Charlotte and performed well during Senior Bowl practices. He’s a prototypical possession wideout who offers possibilities as a fifth receiver who primarily runs underneath routes.

Charlotte WR Grant Dubose Current Draft Projection
On Tony Pauline’s Big Board, Dubose ranks 198th overall and is projected to be drafted in the sixth round. With a 3.37 grade, he is Pauline’s WR28 in the class.
This year’s wide receiver class features plenty of depth but lacks the true high-end talent we’ve been spoiled with in recent years. That could open the door for more later-round selections to work their way onto NFL rosters.
For where Dubose started from, merely being drafted is an amazing accomplishment. No Division I program even wanted him. Everything he accomplished, he earned on his own.
College production is the most predictive indicator of NFL success. When evaluating small-school prospects, production can’t merely be good — it needs to be dominant.

Dubose commanded a 26.7% target share in his best season in 2021. That’s very good, but not quite as dominant as he needed to be to overcome the small-school stigma.
Additionally, Dubose tested out as an average athlete. His speed, burst, and agility all rank around the 50th percentile.
Dubose does not appear to have much in the way of special teams experience. That will be a problem for him when attempting to make an NFL roster. When coaches and general managers decide what fringe players to keep, the ones that play special teams often get the nod.
It’s always a challenge for Day 3 picks. If Dubose is indeed around the 28th wide receiver selected, he will be fighting an uphill battle to make it out of the preseason with a job.
It’s clear Dubose has tremendous drive and work ethic. Given his career trajectory, I certainly wouldn’t count him out as someone who can grind his way to a sustained NFL career. With that said, he profiles as a guy who will bounce around practice squads for most of his career.
