Blake Whiteheart NFL Draft Profile
- Position: Tight End
- School: Wake Forest
- Year: Fifth-Year Senior
Whiteheart was a three-star recruit out of Mount Tabor High High School in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Opting to play college football at Wake Forest, Whiteheart spent five years in college and saw game action in all five years. However, it wasn’t always much.
As a freshman, Whiteheart appeared in just two games, and not as part of the passing game. His sophomore season wasn’t much different. He played in five games but, again, wasn’t featured in the passing game.
It wasn’t until his junior season that Whiteheart finally caught a pass. In total that year, he caught just five of them for 61 yards.

Whiteheart’s offensive involvement significantly increased in his senior and fifth-year seasons. Of course, everything is relative, though. While Whiteheart’s involvement was an improvement on previous years, it still wasn’t much.
Over his final two collegiate seasons, Whiteheart caught a total of 39 passes for 480 yards and six touchdowns, bringing his career receiving numbers to 44 receptions for 541 yards and the six scores.
Blake Whiteheart Scouting Report
Strengths: Nice-sized tight end with a well-rounded game. Blocks with a nasty attitude, attacks assignments, and out-positions opponents from the action. Quickly releases into pass routes, runs solid routes for a tight end, and possesses quick, soft hands. Shows good focus as well as concentration, snatches the ball out of the air, and makes the reception in stride.
Weaknesses: Displays limited quickness. Not a dominant blocker.
Overall: Despite being a well-rounded tight end who can catch the ball, Whiteheart was never a big part of the Wake Forest passing offense. He has untapped potential and enough ability to make an NFL roster as a third TE.

Wake Forest TE Blake Whiteheart Current Draft Projection
On Tony Pauline’s latest Big Board, Whiteheart ranked 251 overall and is projected to be drafted in the sixth or seventh round. With a 3.3 grade, he’s Pauline’s TE16 in this class.
Given his severe lack of college production, it should come as no surprise that Whiteheart projects as a blocking tight end at the NFL level. After all, if Whiteheart is going to make it in the NFL, it will be because of his blocking.
As with any Day 3 pick with minimal receiving chops, Whiteheart is fighting an uphill battle to make an NFL roster. The good news is he’s an above-average athlete, and athleticism goes a long way toward overcoming shortfalls in other areas.

We rarely see Day 3 picks go on to be superstars, but we’ve seen plenty of them go on to have solid careers. Unfortunately, Whiteheart may not be able to break through.
If he is indeed around the 16th tight end off the board, it will be a challenge for Whiteheart to earn a spot on a roster. There just aren’t that many tight end spots available. But merely getting drafted will give Whiteheart a chance to show an NFL team what he can do.
