The Philadelphia Eagles temporarily lost one of their best offensive players in the year’s biggest game. Running back Miles Sanders left for the locker room after the Eagles’ first play in Super Bowl 57. Here’s the latest on the Philadelphia RB.
Miles Sanders Injury Update
Sanders handled the first offensive play of the Super Bowl. After taking a handoff from Jalen Hurts, Sanders tried to bounce outside but was eventually hit hard near the sideline. He gained one yard and fumbled out of bounds.
Sanders jogged to the locker room, but the Eagles did not announce an injury designation.
Backup running backs Kenneth Gainwell and Boston Scott replaced Sanders for the rest of the drive. Gainwell appeared to have scored a touchdown to complete the drive, but he was eventually ruled down just shy of the end zone. Hurts took a quarterback sneak in for a TD on the next play.
Fortunately, Sanders was able to return for the Eagles’ next drive. After Patrick Mahomes lead the Kansas City Chiefs on a scoring drive of their own, Sanders came out of the locker room and reclaimed his helmet.
Sanders put up the best campaign of his career in 2022, setting new marks in rushing yards (1,269) and touchdowns (12) while earning a Pro Bowl nod. He’s scheduled to reach free agency in March.
