Who Are the Top Tight Ends in the 2023 NFL Draft?

There’s a fairly strong consensus group of top five tight ends in the 2023 NFL Draft. While the order varies from analyst to analyst, it’s widely accepted that Notre Dame’s Michael Mayer, Utah’s Dalton Kincaid, Georgia’s Darnell Washington, Oregon State’s Luke Musgrave, and South Dakota State’s Tucker Kraft are the cream of the crop.

Those five have the best chance to go within the early rounds of the 2023 NFL Draft. And all five should have a chance to make an early impact in the NFL. The value of the 2023 TE group extends far beyond that, however.

For all 32 NFL teams, there should be opportunities to buy low on quality talent at TE in the middle and later rounds. Prospects like Sam LaPorta, Payne Durham, Cameron Latu, and Zack Kuntz all have the ability to outplay their projected draft stock. On the all-star circuit, other players such as Blake Whiteheart, Travis Vokolek, Leonard Taylor, Ben Sims, Daniel Barker, and Thomas Greaney impressed in front of NFL scouts.

Even on the draft fringe, there will be TEs worth knowing. Luke Ford and Michael Ezeike, for example, are both former four-star recruits with blocking ability. Jamal Turner is an adept red-zone threat, while Griffin Hebert has the dynamic athleticism to stretch the field. And at the FCS level, Julian Hill, Lachlan Pitts, and Kemari Averett all provide a level of intrigue.
