Russell Wilson Injury: What We Know About the Denver Broncos QB

Here's the latest on Denver Broncos QB Russell Wilson, who left Sunday's game after taking a hard hit.

Russell Wilson took a hard hit on a rushing attempt and may have suffered a concussion in Sunday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Here’s what we know about the Denver Broncos quarterback.

Wilson converted a 3rd-and-11 from Kansas City’s 16-yard line, but he took a massive hit and was slammed to the ground. While he got up and walked off the field under his own power, Wilson clearly looked dazed.

Wilson first went to the blue medical tent before heading to the locker room. The CBS broadcast later showed a large knot on the right side of Wilson’s forehead.

Unsurprisingly, the Broncos announced that Wilson was being evaluated for a concussion. He was formally ruled out near the end of the game.

Injuries are always unfortunate, but Wilson’s is exceptionally wretched, given that he was in the middle of his best game as a Bronco. Wilson had completed 23 of 36 attempts for 247 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception before departing, while Denver was keeping it close with the heavily-favored Chiefs.

Clearly, the 3-9 Broncos aren’t anywhere near the AFC playoff race. But a solid performance from Wilson — and perhaps even a victory over Kansas City — would have been a positive sign for the maligned Denver squad.

Backup Brett Rypien entered the game in relief of Wilson and promptly threw a touchdown pass to Jerry Jeudy. Rypien started against the Jets in Week 7 when Wilson was injured, completing 52% of his passes for 225 yards in a loss to Gang Green.
