Ohio Sports Betting Timeline
2023: Online sports betting went live at midnight on January 1st as sportsbooks started taking legal bets for the first time.
2022: The Ohio Casino Control Commission started taking license applications in the summer and announced that sports betting would go live on January 1, 2023. BetMGM and PointsBet were the first two sportsbooks to apply, but many followed suit as Ohio was poised to become a major state for sports betting.
2021: HB 29 passed through the House and Senate, which would allow legalized online and in-person sports betting in the state of Ohio. The governor then signed the bill in December.
2018: On May 14, 2018, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned PASPA (Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act), officially ending the federal ban on sports betting in the United States.
