How It’s Trending for New York Giants Quarterback Daniel Jones Before London Game

Giants quarterback Daniel Jones is heading in the right direction health-wise as his team prepares to play the Packers in London on Sunday.

There is growing optimism surrounding New York Giants starting quarterback Daniel Jones for his potential availability for Sunday’s London game against the Green Bay Packers.

Jones has practiced on a limited basis the past two days.

“It’s trending in the right direction,” a league source said. “I think he’s going to give it a go and his ankle is doing much better.”

Giants Expect to Elevate QB From Practice Squad Even If Jones Plays

Another source said it still remains unclear if Jones’ ankle will hold up. Because backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor is dealing with the lingering effects of a concussion and is not expected to be cleared in this climate after the Miami Dolphins’ simmering controversy involving quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. Taylor hasn’t practiced all week and could be ruled out officially anytime, per a source familiar with the veteran quarterback’s symptoms.

The Giants are expected to elevate Davis Webb from their practice squad to the active roster in advance of Sunday’s game across the Atlantic Ocean. They worked out quarterbacks A.J. McCarron, Brian Lewerke, and Jake Fromm this week but didn’t immediately sign them.

Daniel Jones ‘a pretty tough individual’

Although Jones’ sprained left ankle impacted him heavily against the Chicago Bears, he has made significant progress in his mobility, per a league source.

He’s a pretty tough individual,” Giants coach Brian Daboll said. “I think he’s made a lot of progress since after the game, and he’s been in the treatment room pretty consistently throughout these last couple of days. So we’ll put him out there, give him some reps and see where he’s at.”

From his standpoint, Jones is feeling better about where things stand.

“Made a lot of progress these last couple days and will continue to do what they tell me to do in the training room as we go through the week,” Jones said. “Feel good and I’m going to do everything I can to be out there. Sunday is a little bit away. I’ll continue to progress throughout the week and see how I feel. I’m confident in my ability to throw from the pocket, throw outside the pocket, and make plays from both.”

The Giants are off to a resurgent 3-1 start in Daboll’s first season.

They beat the Bears 20-12 despite their injuries at quarterback.

Webb is ready to stand in if needed.

    Ready, If Needed

A former third-round draft pick, he hasn’t thrown a pass in an NFL regular-season game. He has played in just one career game.

“Davis has been with me for a while, so he knows our stuff,” Daboll said. “I have a lot of confidence in Davis. He hasn’t played a full game in the regular season, but I’ve been around him for four years, I’ve watched him compete, I’ve watched how he prepares, I watch how he leads. If he is afforded this opportunity, he’ll be ready. I’m happy he’s here.”

Webb is not surprised that Jones is pushing to play.

“He’s a tough guy,” Webb said. “He works hard at it. This is the most important thing in his life, and he’s been that way since the day I met him. You can rally around a leader like that.”
