Some say the definition of craziness is repeating the same thing over and over but expecting a different result. Others would say writing a 7-round 2023 NFL Mock Draft in the first week of October is the epitome of craziness. All we know is that here at Pro Football Network, we’re crazy about college football, crazy about the NFL, and more importantly, crazy about the NFL draft. A 7-round mock in October? Let the craziness begin.
2023 NFL Mock Draft | Round 1
This 7-round 2023 NFL Mock Draft is not yet derived from the current NFL draft order but rather a prediction of where teams may select based on early regular-season results. Feel free to try your hand on your mock draft using PFN’s NFL Mock Draft Simulator!
1) Houston Texans: C.J. Stroud, QB, Ohio State
Although the 2022 NFL season began with the Houston Texans excited over the offseason development of Davis Mills, that excitement has disappeared quicker than your bank balance at a gas station. While the blame can’t all be placed on the former Stanford quarterback’s shoulders, being the only winless team through four weeks of the season, unfortunately, casts a cloud directly over the QB situation.
For every cloud, there is a silver lining. For the Texans, that ray of sunshine sneaking in through the clouds is Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud. Stroud’s performances over the past 14 months have made him the Heisman Trophy favorite and frontrunner — according to “Draft Twitter” — to be the first overall pick. He has the size (6’3″, 215 pounds), accuracy, arm talent, and off-script creativity to be a true menace in the NFL.
2) Chicago Bears: Paris Johnson Jr., OT, Ohio State
Apparently allowing baseball to crossover into the world of football is in vogue so let’s insert some diamond dialogue into the analysis of this 2023 NFL Mock Draft. Sadly for baseball fans, there’ll be no “Field of Dreams” game next year. While upsetting for some, it won’t matter to Chicago Bears fans as they’ve become more accustomed to “Fields of Nightmares” since Justin Fields was drafted with the 11th overall pick in 2021.
The failure is not that of the former Buckeyes QB, however. From pass catchers to pass protection, the Bears have set Fields up for failure. Nevertheless, the selection of Ohio State offensive tackle Paris Johnson Jr. should allow for more success in the future. Johnson has transitioned smoothly from guard to left tackle this fall, with his size, length, power, and athleticism making him the perfect foil for anyone trying to force Fields to the floor.
3) Seattle Seahawks: Will Anderson Jr., EDGE, Alabama
The Seattle Seahawks find themselves on the clock with a conundrum in this 2023 NFL Mock Draft. Sitting at third overall, one of the consensus top quarterbacks in the class is available. As is a quarterback viewed by some inside the league as the best QB in this class.
While Geno Smith has been surprisingly efficient after winning the starting job over Drew Lock, the former West Virginia QB is far from the long-term face of the franchise. Yet, there is also a player who for many is comfortably the best player in the entire class. A player who meets a Seahawks nail that they’ve never quite managed to hit on the head.
When you think of Seattle’s most successful teams, they’ve been ferocious, fast, powerful, and dominating on defense. When you think of a player that all of those words apply to, you think of Will Anderson Jr. Pair the Alabama outside linebacker with Boye Mafe and bully your way to a Super Bowl, Seattle.
4) New York Jets: Jalen Carter, DT, Georgia
The turnstiles of MetLife Stadium have spun less than the revolving door that is the offensive tackle position for the New York Jets this season. A litany of injuries has seen multiple starters trying to protect Joe Flacco and Zach Wilson. Can we say that any of them have shown enough to be considered a long-term piece of the Jets’ OL puzzle? They’d be a prime spot for Johnson, but the Ohio State OT is already taken in this 2023 NFL Mock Draft.
Football is won and lost in the trenches, and there’s no one better in the nation at winning right now than Georgia defensive tackle Jalen Carter. Like those Bulldogs brutes before him, Carter’s athleticism beggars belief, with the agility of a man half his 6’3″, 310-pound size. He’s a genuine difference-maker with the technical tools to weaponize his astonishing athletic accomplishments. He and Quinnen Williams would be terrifying to tussle with.
5) Carolina Panthers: Bryce Young, QB, Alabama
The late, great John Madden is most commonly credited with the cliche that “if you have two quarterbacks, you actually have none.” What would Madden have made of the Carolina Panthers with Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold, Matt Corral, and P.J. Walker all on the books and none of them looking like being the long-term starter?
They won’t all be there at the start of the 2023 NFL season, so let’s use this 2023 NFL Mock Draft to find someone that can be the future face of the franchise.
Despite being the reigning Heisman Trophy winner and leading Alabama to within one game of a national title with multiple imperious performances last season, there are question marks over Bryce Young’s NFL draft stock. Those mainly center around his probably sub-6’0″ height and how that works in the NFL. However, there’s no denying that his poise, precision, and ability to prise victory from the jaws of defeat will make him a promising professional passer.
6) Atlanta Falcons: BJ Ojulari, EDGE, LSU
It’s a little over three months and 28 days until Super Bowl LVII, and the chances are that the Atlanta Falcons won’t be playing in it. That’s certainly how it looks at this stage of the season, with Marcus Mariota not being able to muster up magic or victories while leading the offense. Also at this stage, it’s unclear if Desmond Ridder can be the quarterback to return this franchise to the pinnacle of football.
A QB could be very much in the equation come April. However, the Falcons’ seemingly never-ending quest to find an identity on the edge leads them to the selection of BJ Ojulari in this 2023 NFL Mock Draft. The LSU product — brother of New York Giants’ Azeez — is an explosive pass rusher with excellent bend and a loaded toolbox. Importantly for his NFL projection, Ojulari’s showcased that he can combine these moves to be an almost unstoppable force off the edge.
7) Washington Commanders: Kelee Ringo, CB, Georgia
Ranking in the bottom 10 of the NFL for almost every pass defense metric imaginable, the Washington Commanders need to take command of their cornerback position. Their solitary interception so far this season came from safety Darrick Forrest while allowing the most passing touchdowns and highest average depth of target in the league. Benjamin St-Juste has shown some promise, but they need an alpha back there in the secondary.
Cornerbacks don’t come much more commanding than Kelee Ringo. The 6’2″, 205-pound Georgia Bulldog is a rare breed indeed. Ringo boasts ludicrous, unexpected track speed for a man of his size while playing with the expected ferocity and physicality for his build. Early in the season, he appears to have also elevated his game from a technical perspective. Ringo can be that outside CB enforcer that the Commanders need to compete in the NFC.
8) Pittsburgh Steelers: Olumuyiwa Fashanu, OT, Penn State
It took less than four weeks of the Mitchell Trubisky experiment for the Pittsburgh Steelers to put all their eggs in Kenny Pickett’s basket. Now, they need to surround that basket with as much cotton wool as they can find to ensure that the wicker isn’t penetrated on every pass-rush rep and the shells don’t get smashed leaving the Steelers’ front office with egg all over their face. Pickett can create, but you want him to have a pocket to operate in.
There are few quarterbacks with more time to throw in college football this season than Penn State’s Sean Clifford. Did he turn into the greatest QB in the world overnight? We’ll let you decide. But it’s no surprise that Clifford’s success has coincided with the emergence of left tackle Olumuyiwa Fashanu.
The 6’6″, 308-pound OT prospect has outstanding physical tools that are matched only by elevated technical use of his extremities. While young, Fashanu has high football IQ and is as impressive away from the field as he is on it.
9) Detroit Lions: Will Levis, QB, Kentucky
In this week’s NFL Draft News and Rumors Mailbag, Tony Pauline opined that “if you talk with scouts, it seems that Will Levis of Kentucky is the signal-caller they are most enamored with.” Pauline went on to compare the skin-on orange eater, mayo-in-coffee-drinking Kentucky quarterback to a “Josh Allen type” who should get Detroit Lions fans in a frenzy with his selection at ninth overall in this 2023 NFL Mock Draft.
While comparisons to a quarterback currently dominating the NFL landscape might be a little hasty, there’s clear appeal to Levis as a next-level passer. The natural velocity he creates with minimal apparent effort is exquisite. His tough, put-a-team-on-your-back-and-drag-them-kicking-and-screaming-to-victory style is what Dan Campbell’s Lions are in need of under center.
10) New England Patriots: Noah Sewell, LB, Oregon
When you think of the best New England Patriots teams of the Bill Belichick era, their defenses were built around a ferocious force at the heart of the linebacker group. There simply isn’t that presence currently on the roster, although not for the lack of trying. There’s been free agent acquisitions and hopes pinned on previous draftees, but the lack of impact has been telling in their early-season struggles.
That’s why the selection of Oregon’s Noah Sewell in this 2023 NFL Mock Draft makes sense, even with some needs that might appear to be more pressing. Sewell is a 6’3″, 250-pound physical freak who comes flying downhill with disturbing ferocity and a nose for the ball that makes him extremely dangerous. While there are some concerns over his change-of-direction ability in coverage, Sewell’s been extremely efficient in that facet of his game so far this year.
11) New York Giants: Kayshon Boutte, WR, LSU
Good news New York Giants fans, your team is 3-1 through the first quarter of the NFL season. The not-so-good news is that it’s a quarter of the way through and we still don’t know who Daniel Jones is. An ankle injury has muddied Jones’ early-season evaluation in what is a critical season for the fourth-year QB.
Will the Giants move on from him next year? It’s very possible. Yet, projected to be picking 11th, they’re in QB-pick-position purgatory. Furthermore, there’s still an argument to be made that Jones hasn’t had the caliber of receiving talent that allows a quarterback to be successful in the NFL.
That’s why the selection of LSU’s Kayshon Boutte makes sense in this 2023 NFL Mock Draft. Give Jones a receiver whose electric acceleration and long speed make him a genuine yards-after-the-catch threat while having the ball skills to compete at the catch point.
Admittedly, it’s not been a great start to the season for the preseason WR1 contender in an offense that has changed dramatically since Joe Burrow was throwing a touchdown on what felt like every single pass attempt. However, history teaches us not to discount LSU prospects based solely on their final year in the college system. Boutte in the “Big Apple” has the potential to be beautiful.
12) Philadelphia Eagles (from NO): Myles Murphy, EDGE, Clemson
The “City of Brotherly Love” is feeling the love as the Philadelphia Eagles head into Week 5 of the NFL season as the only unbeaten team in the country. It’s a far cry from the offseason observations about whether Jalen Hurts could achieve success for this Eagles offense and every 2023 NFL Mock Draft that you read had Philly reaching for a replacement. Hurts has been lights out during this early-season spell.
Of course, he’s not doing it alone, and a league-best turnover differential is fueled by an impressive defense. That said, they could seek to upgrade at EDGE next April, and there’s not much better than Clemson monster Myles Murphy. A pivotal cog in one of the best college football defensive fronts, Murphy is practically unstoppable with a combination of size and strength that should see him make an immediate impact in the NFL.
13) Arizona Cardinals: Cam Smith, CB, South Carolina
With Marquise Brown, Rondale Moore, and Kyler Murray, the Arizona Cardinals should be one of the most exciting offenses in the whole of the NFL. Yet, as we race through the season at a pace befitting their WR corps, there’s an argument to be made that they need an entire new offensive identity. DeAndre Hopkins’ suspension doesn’t help, but it shouldn’t be just about one player. (Next man up mentality and all that.)
However, there are clear deficiencies on the defensive side of the ball as well. The Cardinals have been calling out for an elite CB for some time, and the addition of Trayvon Mullen only speaks to that need. The selection of South Carolina’s Cam Smith gives the defense a legitimate playmaker with the size, length, and eye-popping vertical explosion to be a ball hawk in the secondary. Smith’s physicality both in coverage and against the run is an added bonus.
14) Jacksonville Jaguars: Quentin Johnston, WR, TCU
Reports of Trevor Lawrence’s demise have been greatly over-exaggerated it would seem. The former Clemson quarterback had been tabbed a bust by some shock jocks and social media analysts following his first season in the NFL. Four games, eight touchdowns, and two wins into his second campaign, and Lawrence is growing into his talent and leading the Jaguars in a way befitting of his heavily decorated college career.
Now, Lawrence needs an elite pass-catching weapon to turn these Jaguars from AFC South pussycats into a roaring beast of an NFL big cat. For me, there aren’t any better on the boundary than TCU’s Quentin Johnston. Statistically, his season has been disappointing. Yet, almost every week he makes a catch that reminds you exactly of what he is. The 6’4″, 195-pound pass catcher boasts a big frame and an elite catch radius while adding an after-the-catch presence with deceptive athleticism.
15) Houston Texans (from CLE): Bryan Bresee, DT, Clemson
When you earn comparisons to J.J. Watt out of high school, there’s a natural landing spot on any 2023 NFL Mock Draft. Watt made the Texans’ defense a terrifying prospect to face, and while Bryan Bresee isn’t quite in that mood just yet, he’s getting there.
Unrelenting power, elite length, and a 6’5″, 300-pound mass that doesn’t quit make Bresee a game wrecker on the defensive front. He has the talent to go much earlier, but some health and injury scares may cause pause for some teams. Their loss is Houston’s gain in this 2023 NFL Mock Draft.
16) Indianapolis Colts: Broderick Jones, OT, Georgia
Just like their situation on the field, the Indianapolis Colts are in QB-pick-position purgatory in this 2023 NFL Mock Draft. While finding a long-term replacement for Peyton Manning — just kidding, we miss you Andrew Luck — is obviously key, ensuring that whoever takes the reigns from Matt Ryan is set up to succeed is equally important.
Address the offensive line now, and reap the rewards in two to three years time when your young quarterback isn’t flat on his back week in, week out. Bernhard Raimann could develop into the left tackle that the Colts desperately need. Yet, I’d be willing to bet a significant chunk of change that Broderick Jones gets there quicker.
The Georgia OT is an explosive athlete who can get out ahead of the ground game, further strengthening Jonathan Taylor’s dominance at the NFL level. Meanwhile, Jones has an enticing physical profile that is buoyed by the requisite strength and violence to be successful as a pass protector at the NFL level.
17) Las Vegas Raiders: Antonio Johnson, CB, Texas A&M
As Josh McDaniels seeks to scrub the previous regime from the Las Vegas Raiders’ current identity, a housecleaning leaves them with a plethora of potential needs in this 2023 NFL Mock Draft. When you face the high-powered passing attacks of the Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Chargers twice a season, bagging a 6’3″ DB who can impact all phases of the game, from multiple alignments, like Antonio Johnson can is a must. Size, speed, and length should ensure success anywhere despite a high nickel usage for A&M.
18) Seattle Seahawks (from DEN): Hendon Hooker, QB, Tennessee
In recent years, it’s been difficult to evaluate Tennessee Volunteers wide receivers because either the scheme has been awful or the quarterback play has been even worse. Not any longer.
Hendon Hooker has made watching Tennessee fun, and in the process, he’s propelled himself up NFL draft boards quicker than any other quarterback. He has the size (6’4″, 218 pounds), arm talent, and creative mobility that is desirable while being able to throw with anticipation and short to intermediate zip. Additionally, the Tennessee QB showcases impressive pocket awareness, with the ability to hang tough but also sense when it’s time to escape the clutches of an oncoming opponent.
19) Tennessee Titans: Felix Anudike-Uzomah, EDGE, Kansas State
Last year’s hot ticket in the AFC South, the loss of Harold Landry III has exposed some critical weaknesses in the Tennessee Titans’ defense. Both in the short and long term, Felix Anudike-Uzomah gives them a relentless pass rusher who thrives on using his violent hands to disable opposing offensive linemen.
Meanwhile, Anudike-Uzomah’s strength and length ensure the 6’5″, 255-pound edge prospect is equally adept at impacting the ground game as he is at getting after the quarterback. A potential partnership with Landry would be insane.
20) Cincinnati Bengals: Isaiah Foskey, EDGE, Notre Dame
There might be more substantial needs for the Cincinnati Bengals, but landing a top-tier edge rusher in this 2023 NFL Mock Draft like Isaiah Foskey is just too good an opportunity to miss. There’s a clear need there, with the Bengals falling short of two sacks per game so far this season despite attempting to address the EDGE position in recent offseasons. The Fighting Irish star boasts the size, power, motor, and length to consistently make plays as a dominant pass rusher in the NFL.
21) Minnesota Vikings: Emmanuel Forbes, CB, Mississippi State
The Minnesota Vikings have two young cornerbacks waiting in the wings in Akayleb Evans and Andrew Booth Jr., but can either emerge as the long-term successor to Patrick Peterson?
Booth has the potential to be great if he can stay healthy. In the meantime, Emmanuel Forbes is busy being a dominant force in the SEC, elevating his draft stock every week as a defensive dynamo who possesses the length, vertical athleticism, quick footwork, route recognition, and physicality to be a Day 1 NFL starter.
22) Dallas Cowboys: Jordan Addison, WR, USC
Hands up if you knew who Noah Brown was before the season? Even Jerry Jones doesn’t know his name properly. That speaks to the WR issues currently plaguing this Dallas Cowboys team.
CeeDee Lamb is one of the best in the league right now, but you need more than one guy. Across two different college football offenses in the last two seasons, Jordan Addison has shown he has the talent to be elite. The reigning Biletnikoff Award winner has the speed and route-running ability to be a three-level threat in the NFL.
23) Detroit Lions (from LAR): Brian Branch, DB, Alabama
There’s a purpose behind referring to Alabama star Brian Branch simply as a defensive back in this 2023 NFL Mock Draft. Pigeonholing him into just one role in the secondary is foolish, and a waste of his talent.
Branch is a do-it-all defensive stud who pairs top-tier football instincts with the athletic ability to put them into action and a motor that keeps running all game long. You’ll struggle to find a more reliable tackler in all of college football. For a team that needs help at multiple spots in the secondary, Branch is the perfect fit.
24) Los Angeles Chargers: Peter Skoronski, OT, Northwestern
What’s better than one dominant Northwestern offensive tackle on your offensive line? How about two? The Los Angeles Chargers hit the jackpot with Rashawn Slater, and they shore up the offensive line with the selection of Peter Skoronski in this 2023 NFL Draft.
While having some initial reservations about his game ahead of the season, Skoronski’s been playing at an extremely high level despite the Wildcats’ woes. He’s a top-tier technician, an audacious athlete, and boasts a rock-solid anchor. It’s always a projection when asking a career LT to make the move across the offensive line, but Skoronski has the intelligence to do so. The Chargers should do everything in their power to keep Justin Herbert upright for years to come.
25) Baltimore Ravens: Jaxon Smith-Njigba, WR, Ohio State
Why we’re still having the Lamar Jackson passing QB debate in the year 2022 I’m not sure, but yet, there are still “analysts” out there that would deride his ability. What Baltimore does lack in the passing game is a true three-level threat as a go-to option for Jackson to consistently deploy his talents.
Ohio State WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba — though dinged up a little this year — offers that, with his catch-point prowess second to none in this class. People inside Ohio State claim he’s better than the duo drafted last April.
26) Miami Dolphins (from SF): Michael Mayer, TE, Notre Dame
A certain Texas running back is the popular choice for the Miami Dolphins’ only first-round pick, and it’s one that has been made multiple times by myself. In this 2023 NFL Mock Draft, however, Mike McDaniel’s team land a game-changing tight end that helps the offense in multiple ways.
While possessing elite athleticism (relative to size) and ball skills as a pass catcher, Notre Dame’s Michael Mayer is also impactful as a blocker in the ground game. He’s the real deal who can return the TE position back to the first round.
27) Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Clark Phillips III, CB, Utah
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are a prime candidate to land a quarterback in Round 1 of next year’s draft. But in this 2023 NFL Mock Draft, they strengthen a secondary that needs to help minimize the reliance on Tom Brady.
Utah CB Clark Phillips III might get tabbed with the “undersized” tag in this class, but his talent far outweighs any concerns about his height. He’s an elite playmaker with top-tier athleticism and a physicality that belies his diminutive stature. Don’t sleep on the Pac-12 prospect.
28) Green Bay Packers: Jared Verse, EDGE, Florida State
Rashan Gary and Preston Smith have performed well for the Green Bay Packers early in the season, and with both pass rushers locked in through next year and beyond, EDGE seems an unlikely need in Lambeau Field. Dig a little deeper, and there isn’t much in the way of depth. In that situation, you’re only ever one injury away from disaster.
When you add a player like Jared Verse, you’re adding not only talented depth but a player who can challenge for starting reps early in his career. He wins with speed. He wins with power. The 6’4″, 250-pounder has an ever-growing pass-rush arsenal and could line up as an OLB at either end of the Packers linebacker duo.
29) Kansas City Chiefs: Tyree Wilson, EDGE, Texas Tech
With George Karlaftis proving to be one of the steals of the last cycle, the Kansas City Chiefs dip into the first round to address the defensive front for the second consecutive season.
Tyree Wilson came into the season as something of an unknown to casual college football fans but with a high reputation in scouting circles. At 6’6″, 275 pounds, the Texas Tech defensive end is long and powerful, with the athletic tools to be dangerously impactful at the next level. He’s lived up to the hype so far through the opening half of the season.
30) Philadelphia Eagles: Bijan Robinson, RB, Texas
Luxury picks don’t come much more luxurious or frankly terrifying than pairing Bijan Robinson with Hurts in the Eagles’ backfield. The Texas RB has legitimate first-round talent, with his ability to run the rock both with elusiveness and physicality. He’s an elite receiving talent who runs routes like a wide receiver and has the hands to match.
Robinson has found success behind an inexperienced offensive line in his career to date. Words can’t even begin to describe what he could do behind Philadelphia’s mauling unit.
31) Buffalo Bills: Trenton Simpson, LB, Clemson
There are a few ways the Buffalo Bills could turn at the back of Round 1 if predictions hold true and they hoist the Vince Lombardi Trophy in February. Interior OL is a need, and there are multiple defensive positions to address. The latter is why the fit for Trenton Simpson makes so much sense.
The hyper-athletic linebacker/safety hybrid is the epitome of a Swiss Army Knife, with snaps at pretty much every conceivable alignment for Clemson. He’s an enforcer coming downhill and a playmaker in all phases. Now get me a damn table to jump through.
2023 NFL Mock Draft | Round 2
32) Houston Texans: Rashee Rice, WR, SMU
With a new quarterback in the shape of Stroud, the Texans strike for a sensational pass catcher at the top of Round 2 in this 2023 NFL Mock Draft. SMU wide receiver Rashee Rice boasts an electric skill set that is equal parts explosive athleticism and catch-point prowess. The 6’2″, 203-pound WR is a reliable target with after-the-catch menace.
33) Chicago Bears: Zay Flowers, WR, Boston College
The second part of Operation Support Fields comes in the form of a game-changing deep threat at wide receiver. Boston College pass catcher Zay Flowers possesses the ability to make a man miss in the open field more than almost any player in this 2023 NFL Draft class. While he excels at taking short passes and turning them into long gains, Flowers is also adept at converting at the catch point as his “Catch of the Year” against Louisville attests to.
34) Seattle Seahawks: O’Cyrus Torrence, G, Florida
Adding O’Cyrus Torrence to last year’s class that contained Charles Cross and Abraham Lucas gives the Seahawks an imposing offensive line for any quarterback and running back to operate behind. The Louisiana transfer has been outstanding in the SEC for Florida, with his powerful and technically refined approach reaping rewards both in pass protection and in run blocking.
35) New York Jets: Anton Harrison, OT, Oklahoma
While spurning the OT position early in Round 1 of this mock, the Jets strike for reinforcement on the line with their second pick. Oklahoma’s Anton Harrison is a prospect gathering steam with some impressive showings so far this season. He’s showcased a delightful blend of sheer physical tools and a deeper understanding of the technical aspect of the position, resulting in an ascending prospect.
36) Carolina Panthers: Calijah Kancey, DT, Pittsburgh
Admittedly, Calijah Kancey would be something of a departure from the Panthers’ usual DT requisite, but simply referring to the Pittsburgh phenom as a defensive tackle would be disingenuous. He’s a tooled-up pass-rush weapon — with elite explosion to match — who could conceivably line up at multiple spots on the line regardless of a perceived lack of size at the NFL level.
37) Atlanta Falcons: Siaki Ika, DT, Baylor
Unbelievably as I sat writing this 2023 NFL Mock Draft, the Falcons releases starting nose tackle Anthony Rush. Presumably, there’s a spy-gate operation afoot and they know that Baylor behemoth Siaki Ika is coming their way. Plugging in the 6’4″, 358-pound beast between Grady Jarrett and Ta’Quon Graham adds multiple layers to the Atlanta pass rush as Ika eats up double teams while posing a penetrating threat of his own.
38) Washington Commanders: Jaren Hall, QB, BYU
Is Commander Carson Wentz on his way out of the NFL? The former North Dakota State QB has struggled mightily this season. Surely his days as a starter are numbered. Is Washington sold on Sam Howell?

40) Detroit Lions: Henry To’oTo’o, LB, Alabama
The Lions found a late-round LB gem in Malcolm “Rodrigo” Rodriguez last year, but don’t leave it so long to find him a partner in crime in this 2023 NFL Mock Draft. Alabama’s Henry To’oTo’o offers Detroit an instinctual player with a high football IQ, physicality, and the attributes to be a high-level run defender at a significant position of need.
41) New England Patriots: Christian Gonzalez, CB, Oregon
The Patriots double-dip with the Ducks, adding freak CB Christian Gonzalez to first-round pick Sewell in this 2023 NFL Mock Draft. The Oregon DB has ridiculous athleticism for his size (6’2″, 200 pounds) in addition to the length and football instincts to be an instant impact maker in the NFL. New England adds an exciting talent at a position of need.
42) New York Giants: Garrett Williams, CB, Syracuse
Anyone who has witnessed Syracuse’s unexpected unbeaten start to the 2022 college football season is crucially aware of the impact that cornerback Garrett Williams can make on a game. He’s fast, fluid, and physical, adding coverage capability as well as under-appreciated run-game chops to a Giants secondary in desperate need of a playmaker.
43) New Orleans Saints: JL Skinner, S, Boise State
Although Tyrann Mathieu is still one of the best out there at the safety position, Father Time — that cruel, unrelenting monster — catches up to us all eventually. Having a succession plan in place would be extremely beneficial for the Saints, who land an underrated long-term replacement in JL Skinner. The Boise State baller hits like a hammer coming downhill, with dangerous closing speed and ferocity emanating from his 6’4″, 220-pound frame.
44) Arizona Cardinals: Jahmyr Gibbs, RB, Alabama
Consistently linked to Texas RB Robinson in mock drafts across the media landscape, Jahmyr Gibbs gives the Cardinals a similar impact-maker at a reduced cost. However, his stock is only going to escalate with performances like the one against Arkansas where he showcased his full capacity as a speedy, elusive, yet physical running back. With receiving and blocking ability in his armory, Gibbs is the all-around back you can bet on for success.
45) Jacksonville Jaguars: Gervon Dexter, DT, Florida
Travon Walker is exactly as advertised, creating a dangerous pass-rush duo with Josh Allen that is strengthened by Devin Lloyd’s all-encompassing skill set at inside LB. Adding a monster lineman like Florida’s Gervon Dexter will further deliver defensive dominance. At 6’6″ and 313 pounds, Dexter possesses the power you’d expect from a player of his size while also boasting the athleticism that you wouldn’t.
46) Cleveland Browns: Tyler Davis, DT, Clemson
Without a pick in Round 1, the Cleveland Browns kick off their picks in this 2023 NFL Mock Draft by hitting on a position of significant need. Due to some injury concerns, Tyler Davis has somewhat slipped off the radar. Still, he’s shown this season that he can be a dangerous impact player at the heart of a defensive line. Davis is a long 6’2″, 300-pound wrecking ball whose fast feet and even faster hands can spell disaster for his opponent.

The Cougars QB has got a sensational arm that can hit anywhere on the field. If the Colts keep Matt Ryan around, he’ll be the perfect mentor to iron out the creases in Ward’s game as he continues his ascent to being an exceptional passer.
48) Las Vegas Raiders: Matthew Bergeron, OT, Syracuse
More replacing of departed picks from the previous regime as Syracuse offensive tackle Matthew Bergeron fills the hole where Alex Leatherwood used to be. The Orange OT is a violent people mover with the power to counter and displace the most fierce of defensive linemen. Bergeron also possesses the footwork to comfortably match speed rushers.
49) Seattle Seahawks (from DEN): Ivan Pace Jr., LB, Cincinnati
Not content with having Anderson and Mafe to rage a campaign of terror in opposing backfields, the addition of Ivan Pace Jr. to the LB room gives Seattle another heat-seeking missile who thrives at causing maximum damage behind the line of scrimmage. However, Pace is also extremely impressive in coverage, giving him three-down next-level potential.
50) Tennessee Titans: Darnell Wright, OT, Pittsburgh
Don’t allow last season’s selection of Nicholas Petit-Frere fool you into thinking the Titans don’t need to add further OL pieces next April. Especially with the season-ending injury to Taylor Lewan causing him to ask “What if football is done with me?” during a recent podcast appearance.
Pitt OT Darnell Wright boasts prototypical NFL OT size and length, and blends violence with power while possessing the athleticism to be a force at the second level in the ground game. He’s also experienced at both bookends of the O-line.
51) Cincinnati Bengals: Darnell Washington, TE, Georgia
Hey Bengals fans, can I interest you in a ludicrous mismatch weapon at the tight end position? I can?! Excellent. Because that’s exactly what they get here in the second round of this 2023 NFL Mock Draft.
At 6’7″, 270 pounds, Darnell Washington could pass for a slender offensive lineman. Conveniently, he displays some lineman-esque ability as a blocker. But, it’s his utility as a pass-catching threat that should excite Bengals fans and Joe Burrow alike.
52) Minnesota Vikings: Josh Downs, WR, North Carolina
Justin Jefferson and Adam Thielen make a potent one-two WR punch for the Vikings. After that, however, the pass-catching pantry is emptier than Old Mother Hubbard’s cupboard.
Josh Downs gives them a three-level threat who has the speed to take the top off a defense, elusiveness as an after-the-catch threat, and impressively twitchy route-running ability to create separation. You like that, Kirk Cousins?!
53) Dallas Cowboys: LaDarius Henderson, G, Arizona State
If the Cowboys see Tyler Smith as a future franchise lt, then finding a long-term piece on the interior will likely be a key part of their 2023 NFL Draft strategy. LaDarius Henderson is a 6’5″, 310-pound versatile offensive line prospect who showcases a powerful punch combined with a mauler mentality and excellent overall strength.
54) Miami Dolphins: Nolan Smith, EDGE, Georgia
A whole host of Dolphins OLBs are out of contract next April, including current starter Melvin Ingram. Adding Georgia’s Nolan Smith in this 2023 NFL Mock Draft gives Miami an elite-level athlete who generates surprising strength from his lightweight frame. His bend capacity should allow him to penetrate the opposing backfield with frightening regularity.
55) Los Angeles Rams: Andre Carter II, EDGE, Army
Andre Carter II‘s Army eligibility question marks may prevent him from ever ascending this high in the 2023 NFL Draft. However, based on talent alone, Carter’s deserving of a Day 2 selection. An athletic anomaly at 6’7″ and 260 pounds, the Army EDGE is extremely explosive, arriving in the opposition’s backfield before the OT is even out of his stance. The Rams needed a Von Miller replacement this summer, and they don’t have it — yet.
56) Los Angeles Chargers: Jayden Reed, WR, Michigan State
Keenan Allen and Mike Williams are an impressive and productive one-two WR punch for the Chargers, and Joshua Palmer is also proving he belongs in an NFL rotation. However, to truly unlock Herbert’s full ability, they could use a genuine speedster who can take the top off a defense.
Welcome to LA, Jayden Reed. The underrated Michigan State receiver has legitimate speed but is more than just a one-trick pony as a pass catcher.
57) Baltimore Ravens: Justin Flowe, LB, Oregon
Size. Speed. Physicality. Explosion. Coverage capability. Oregon’s Justin Flowe ticks many of the boxes that you look for in linebacker evaluation. However, we’ve yet to see it fully materialize on the field for Oregon. Flowe’s performances down the stretch of the season will be critical to how high he can be drafted. But for now, he makes an excellent addition to a Ravens LB group that could use an injection of talent.
58) San Francisco 49ers: John Michael Schmitz, C, Minnesota
Starting center Jake Brendel is out of contract at the end of the season, and the San Francisco 49ers could use an upgrade to the heart of their offensive line. John Michael Schmitz has made a name for himself paving the way for record-setting Minnesota RB Mohamed Ibrahim. He has the power to plow through defensive linemen and the athleticism to get out and secure rushing lanes at the second level.
59) Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Jalon Daniels, QB, Kansas
How do you replace a Super Bowl-winning quarterback like Brady? Do you try and find a carbon copy and hope to somehow replicate success? Or do you just tear it up and start again, taking the opportunity to refresh your offense and recreate its identity?
That’s exactly what Jalon Daniels has done for Kansas this season, transforming the former whipping boys of college football into the hottest ticket in town. The 6’0″, 203-pound QB has an exceptional arm and can add creative mobility to this Buccaneers offense.
60) Green Bay Packers: Brandon Joseph, S, Notre Dame
Adrian Amos is going to be out of contract at the end of this year. Darnell Savage will also be seeking a contract extension in the not-too-distant future. Safety is a very real need for the Packers, and in this 2023 NFL Mock Draft, they land one of the best in the nation.
Brandon Joseph is a high-level processor with the ball skills and athletic ability to act upon his instincts, making him a dangerous turnover-forcing talent in the secondary.
61) Kansas City Chiefs: Cedric Tillman, WR, Tennessee
In Skyy Moore and Mecole Hardman, the Kansas City Chiefs have their yards-after-the-catch connoisseur and speedy pass catcher, respectively. What they need is a reliable boundary threat who can consistently haul in contested catches. At 6’3″ and 215 pounds, Cedric Tillman gives them that big-bodied threat, but he also poses a threat with some impressive athletic tendencies.
62) Philadelphia Eagles: Mekhi Garner, CB, LSU
James Bradberry was a nice pick-up for the Eagles, and Darius Slay continues to live up to his nickname “Big Play.” However, that shouldn’t preclude Philadelphia from adding to the secondary, although it’s unlikely they’ll do that on Day 1.
So, here in Round 2, they snag LSU’s Mekhi Garner. There are few more physical corners out there, but Garner combines this with great size and length to consistently challenge at the catch point. He’s also equally adept at sniffing and snuffing out the short stuff.
63) Buffalo Bills: Olusegun Oluwatimi, C, Michigan
The Bills struggled to move the ball on the ground last season — other than Allen scrambling — and a lot of those issues can be traced back to the interior offensive line. Additionally, center Mitch Morse is out of contract at the end of the year.
Olusegun Oluwatimi makes an excellent run-blocking replacement who has really developed in the early part of his Michigan career. Upper body strength and lower body power combine to create a people mover who has the football intelligence to maximize his physical tools.

A highly-rated defensive tackle heading into the season, Jaquelin Roy gives the Bears an impactful presence up front who boasts violent and powerful hands while possessing the length to shed blocks with relative ease.

Seattle adds another athletic freak to their cornerback room. DJ Turner might not have the size of Tariq Woolen, but he can match him just about everywhere else. The Michigan CB has a documented 4.28-second 40-yard time that should blow some minds at the NFL Combine.

Jordan Battle gives the Jets important safety depth that could develop into a starting-caliber NFL talent. He’s equally impactful against the run and pass, reads the game extremely well, and has enough athleticism to act upon those instincts.

A twitchy route runner with good long speed, Dontayvion Wicks boasts the size (6’2″, 208 pounds) and catch radius (reported 33.5″ arms) to pose a three-level NFL threat. The Virginia wide receiver can be Mac Jones’ (or Bailey Zappe’s) best friend as a reliable target.

Jaelyn Duncan, OT, Maryland
Jaelyn Duncan is a strong, athletic OT who is equally adept in pass protection as run blocking. Duncan has fast feet, is explosive out of his stance, and showcases strength with a vice-like grip.
70) Indianapolis Colts
Eli Ricks, CB, Alabama
After an explosive start to his career with LSU, Eli Ricks has had a substantial fall from grace following his transfer to Alabama. His inability to pick up the Crimson Tide playbook raises some question marks, but his physicality, length, and explosiveness are worth taking a third-round risk on.

Mazi Smith, DT, Michigan
Plugging in 6’3″, 326-pound behemoth and athletic freak Mazi Smith at nose tackle would enable the rest of the defensive front seven to thrive. Meanwhile, the Michigan man has the tools to pose a serious threat as a pass rusher himself if developed correctly.

Parker Washington, WR, Penn State
Jameson Williams and Amon-Ra St. Brown could be a legitimate pass-catcher pairing in the NFL. However, adding Penn State’s Parker Washington adds another level of threat for new QB Levis. He plays bigger than his listed 5’10” as a physical threat at the catch point while also adding after-the-catch value.

One of the top FCS prospects in this 2023 NFL Draft class, North Dakota State offensive tackle Cody Mauch is a high-level technician who also boasts impressive movement ability and the footwork to effortlessly redirect against the fastest pass rushers he’s faced to date.

Luke Musgrave, TE, Oregon State
The Texans snag a rapidly rising TE prospect who adds multiple-phase value in the third round. At 6’5″, 250 pounds, Luke Musgrave is an athletic pass-catching mismatch who also undertakes blocking responsibilities with an unerring degree of physicality.
79) Denver Broncos
Kyu Blu Kelly, CB, Stanford
The Denver Broncos have one of the best CBs in the nation in Pat Surtain II, but don’t rule out them adding a stablemate for the former Alabama star. Kyu Blu Kelly should follow in the footsteps of former Stanford CB Paulson Adebo to the NFL, with his size, length, and fluidity all of early-round caliber.

Byron Young is not just another Alabama defensive lineman. He boasts an elite run-stopping profile at 6’3″ and 292 pounds predicated on explosion and sheer strength. Elevating his pass-rush approach could see him command even more significant capital.

A physical rusher with excellent speed, his transfer to Ole Miss has seen the former TCU back live up to the promise he displayed coming out of high school where he earned comparisons to Adrian Peterson.

It’d be a surprise to see the Los Angeles Rams leave the 2023 NFL Draft without an offensive tackle. In Carter Warren, they land an NFL-sized OT with elite length, impressive footwork, and a solid anchor as a pass protector. Warren’s pass-protection experience is a huge plus for Matthew Stafford.
