Minnesota Vikings rookie safety Lewis Cine was carted off the field after suffering what appeared to be a serious leg injury against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. Here’s what we know about Cine’s injury.
Vikings safety Lewis Cine suffers leg injury
Cine, the Viking’s first-round pick in March, went down holding his leg after blocking on a punt return in the first half. Many of Cine’s teammates surrounded him as he was placed on a backboard and eventually carted off the field.
Cine left the field with an air cast on his leg. According to the NFL Network broadcast, he was taken to a local hospital, where his injury was evaluated.
Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell told reporters that Cine suffered a fractured leg, and he’ll remain in London to undergo surgery. Some members of the Vikings organization will stay with him.
The Vikings selected Cine with the 32nd overall pick in 2022. A Georgia product, Cine has mostly played on special teams to begin his NFL career.
Cine, a two-year starter in one of college football’s best defenses, earned a national championship title and was named All-SEC in his final season with the Bulldogs.
