Source: Cardinals wide receiver Rondale Moore injured hamstring in practice

The Arizona Cardinals' receiving corps took a hit with second-year pass catcher Rondale Moore injuring his hamstring in practice.

Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Rondale Moore injured his hamstring in practice Thursday, according to a league source not authorized to speak publicly.

“He went down running a route,” the source said. “It seems serious.”

Moore is undergoing further examination, including an MRI, to determine the severity of the injury.

The Cardinals are already playing without Pro Bowl wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins due to a six-game suspension for violating the NFL performance enhancing drug policy.

Moore had 178 catches for 1,916 yards and 14 touchdowns at Purdue. As a rookie, he hauled in 54 receptions for 435 yards and one touchdown last season, including a 77-yard score in his second career game against the Minnesota Vikings.

An Indiana native, Moore was originally committed to Texas before deciding to play for the Boilermakers. At Purdue, he had 2,048 all-purpose yards for the second most in school history.

He won the Paul Hornung Award and was a first-team consensus All-American selection. When healthy, Moore has a ton of speed, running the 40-yard dash in 4.32 seconds.

The Cardinals will lean heavily on Hollywood Brown, who they acquired in a trade from the Baltimore Ravens during the 2022 NFL Draft. They also have A.J. Green, Andy Isabella, and Greg Dortch.

Meanwhile, tight end Zach Ertz didn’t practice Thursday due to a calf injury after being limited in practice Wednesday. The Cardinals only have two wide receivers on their practice squad: Andre Baccellia and Victor Bolden.

PFN’s fantasy team entered the season with high hopes for Moore, especially with Hopkins missing significant time. With an aging duo of A.J. Green and Zach Ertz his only real competition for targets, it’s not unreasonable to expect Moore to soar passed his Year 1 numbers.

“It’s not crazy to think Moore will lead the Cardinals in receptions this season. Getting that type of potential this late in the draft is a no-brainer. You can afford to take risks earlier and later if you roster Moore. That’s a nice luxury to have.”
