If you’re competing in an NFL DFS tournament for both Thursday Night Football games, then you’ve come to the right place. Whether competing in fantasy football tournaments or 50/50 contests, it’s always challenging to anticipate preseason usage. We’ve run through dozens of potential scripts — including realistic snap counts — for tonight’s games, and here is our recommended DFS lineup for the Chiefs vs. Packers and Texans vs. 49ers.
Top FanDuel NFL DFS picks for Thursday Night Football
Today we’re playing a “Full Roster” tournament on FanDuel that includes one QB, two RBs, three WRs, one TE, one Flex, and one D/ST. Because this is the preseason and even sites like FanDuel had no idea who would play when they set pricing, they gave every player a $6,000 price tag.
Trey Lance, QB, San Francisco 49ers
It’s a risky call, but here’s what we know. Trey Lance will play somewhere between one drive and one half. If we split the difference, one quarter of Lance (2-3 drives) should be enough to collect 10+ fantasy points. If you want to play it safer, go with Jordan Love, who’s almost guaranteed roughly one half of work. If you want upside, go Lance.
Patrick Taylor, RB, Green Bay Packers
Patrick Taylor is competing with Dexter Williams and Tyler Goodson as the team continues its August cuts. I’d suggest stacking two of these RBs today, with the expectation that each should see 6+ touches. Taylor certainly looked capable last year and caught 55 passes in college. He’s got some pop tonight with the pressure on.
Tyler Goodson, RB, Green Bay Packers
A free agent signing in May, rookie Tyler Goodson has earned a whopping 22 carries in the first two preseason games, tying him for fourth most in the league.
[bet-promo id=”174860″ ]Clearly, the Packers have wanted to get a good luck at him, and his improvement on the ground last year could mean he’s got a real shot at cracking the final roster. Besides Taylor, his competition includes Dexter Williams, who last played in 2020 and has only seven career carries.
Romeo Doubs, WR, Green Bay Packers
One more Packer because it’s hard to bet against Romeo Doubs. The rookie should see more action tonight, as Green Bay will rest only its current starters — and Doubs isn’t one yet. But he could be by midseason, if not sooner. The talented receiver has made his QBs look good, and he should net at least a few targets again tonight.
Justin Watson, WR, Kansas City Chiefs
As with Doubs, I recommended starting Justin Watson in DFS last week, and he came through. The Chiefs might have gotten a steal after the Bucs had to part ways. Watson’s abilities have never been in doubt. He could push for a weekly tertiary role if he continues to shine. His nice ceiling makes him worth the investment.
Daurice Fountain, WR, Kansas City Chiefs
Daurice Fountain is firmly on the roster bubble, though he has a very good shot at making the team. I like him as the potential No. 6 WR. The 2018 fifth-round draft pick should see enough action to make him a 12-point-upside play, albeit with a floor similar to a lot of other backup receivers.
Ross Dwelley, TE, San Francisco 49ers
Week 3 of the preseason is not a week for reliable DFS tight ends. That said, Ross Dwelley has been a capable backup over the years and could be the most targeted TE tonight.
Danny Gray, WR, San Francisco 49ers
I’m recommending Danny Gray yet again. And why not? The rookie is making a statement this preseason with four catches for 123 yards and a touchdown. He and Lance are a good bet to connect at least once, and 3-4 catches for Gray are doable.
San Francisco 49ers, D/ST
Probably not a surprise since I haven’t included any Texans in this lineup. The longer San Francisco’s starters are out there this evening, the better the odds of this D/ST cracking 12+ points against a fairly shallow Houston offense.
