Some may be curious about how the NFL selects the teams for the annual Hall of Fame Game. Each year the teams are based on the nominees in each year’s class and who would represent them the best.

When it comes to the 2022 Hall of Fame Game, the league will enshrine Oakland legends Cliff Branch and Richard Seymour and the Jaguars’ first-ever Hall of Fame inductee Tony Boselli. The Class of 2022 made the NFL’s decision fairly easy. Let’s look at what channels the 2022 Hall of Fame Game will be on.

Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Las Vegas Raiders

While fans won’t get to see several new players on the field, fans of both franchises will get to see the debut of their new head coaches. Although not their first destinations, the coaches are brand new to their respective teams.

The Raiders will see former Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels call his first game for the Silver and Black while Super Bowl 52 champion Doug Pederson makes his debut for Jacksonville. This is also the first time the Jaguars and Raiders have gone head-to-head in the preseason.

While the Raiders have been stung early by the injury bug in training camp, Pederson and the Jaguars announced some key absences from the 2022 Hall of Fame Game after Tuesday’s practice. Second-year QB Trevor Lawrence will not take any snaps after Pederson was satisfied with his progress so far in training camp. Meanwhile, backup QB C.J. Beathard has been ailing from a groin injury since early June, thrusting Jake Luton into the starting spot tonight.

Furthermore, RBs Travis Etienne and James Robinson will also miss the first preseason game. Etienne missed practice on Tuesday due to an illness, and Pederson wants to proceed with caution following the running back’s Lisfranc injury. Nevertheless, early returns from training camp have been promising as Etienne has been a full participant.

Robinson continues to recover from his Achilles injury last season, opening the door for rookie RB Snoop Conner and veterans Ryquell Armstead and Mekhi Sargent in the 2022 Hall of Fame Game. Be ready for a night of celebration as the league ushers in the new season and prepares to enshrine the 2022 Hall of Fame Class on Saturday.
