The Kansas City Chiefs have granted star wide receiver Tyreek Hill permission to seek a trade partner after contract talks hit an impasse, according to league sources not authorized to speak publicly.
Will Tyreek Hill be traded?
The Chiefs and Hill’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, were in talks, but they’ve broken off now, and Kansas City is expected to seek at least two first-round draft picks in exchange for the Pro Bowl wide receiver. The Miami Dolphins and New York Jets are the potential trade partners, according to ESPN.
Playing under a three-year, $54 million contract, the six-time Pro Bowl selection was initially expected to command a four-year extension worth roughly $85 million with over half of it guaranteed, according to league sources.
Now that the Las Vegas Raiders traded for former Green Bay Packers wide receiver Davante Adams and signed him to a five-year, $141.25 million deal that averages $28.25 million, the market has exploded. Adams is now the highest-paid wide receiver in the NFL above DeAndre Hopkins’ $27.25 million average per year.
Hill has been named to six consecutive Pro Bowls and had 1,479 receiving yards in 2018. He is under contract for next season. In 2022, Hill has a $20.685 million salary cap figure. So one goal would be to give the team some salary cap relief.
Hill ranks sixth among all wide receivers with an annual salary of $18 million. A three-time All-Pro first-team selection, Hill has produced consecutive 1,200-yard seasons.
