Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers officially signed his $200 million contract that averages $50 million in the first three years.
Aaron Rodgers’ officially signed $200 million contract
“His play on the field and leadership in our locker room remain vital in our pursuit of another Super Bowl title,” Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst said in a statement. “The agreement also allows us to maintain and enhance what we feel is already a very competitive roster.”
In 2022, Rodgers is due $41.95 million with a $40.8 million roster bonus treated as a signing bonus and a base salary of $1.15 million. His $59.515 million salary in 2023 is also fully guaranteed. Furthermore, his $49.3 million salary in 2024 is guaranteed for injury at signing, combining for a total of $150.815 million, according to NFL Players Association records.
Rodgers’ contract indicates he’ll play at least two more years
Rdogers’ salary cap figure is down to $28.5 million this year, a reduction of $18 million. The deal includes two additional years that can be reworked to allow him to remain with the NFC North franchise after the 2024 season.
It’s basically a three-year, $150 million deal. Should Rodgers retire, be cut, or traded after one season, the Packers take on $68 million in dead money if it’s after June 1 and as much as $99.8 million before June 1. That indicates Rodgers is likely to play at least two more seasons in Green Bay.
A back-to-back MVP winner who weighed retirement or going to another team, Rodgers ultimately returned after contemplating his future.
Rodgers broke Brett Favre’s franchise record for career touchdown passes last season and now has 449.
