Every offseason brings unique challenges to every team in the NFL. Some have to worry about many key players hitting free agency. The Tennessee Titans only have a few key free agents to worry about, and the rest of their focus can go to the NFL Draft. In this 7-Round 2022 NFL Mock Draft, the Titans aim to retool for a playoff run next season.
Tennessee Titans 2022 7-Round Mock Draft
The Titans don’t need to bring in instant impact talent in this draft. It’s a bonus if they can, but they have players on the roster that will allow the rookies to learn and develop. In PFN Draft Analyst Ian Cummings‘ latest 7-Round Mock Draft, the Titans added some quality talent that can both contribute right away but also sit back and learn for a year.
Round 1, Pick 26: Tyler Linderbaum, C, Iowa
Tennessee brought back veteran center Ben Jones, but he’ll be 33 before the start of the season. With Jones’ career certainly winding down, the Titans target a prospect that can bring depth and versatility at both the center and guard positions.
Tyler Linderbaum brings a nasty attitude to blocking. If you’re not prepared for an absolute battle with him, you’re in for a long day. That means winning at the snap and playing through the whistle. Because that’s what he’s going to do, and you’re going to be sore if you’re not ready to bring that same energy.
Round 3, Pick 90: Brian Asamoah, LB, Oklahoma
The Titans found success in the past by drafting athletic linebackers, and they do it again in this 2022 NFL Mock Draft. Brian Asamoah brings great athleticism to the linebacker position. He might still be working through deconstructing blocks, but his explosiveness to the football will help.
Asamoah stood out at both the Senior Bowl and the NFL Combine, solidifying him as a third-round projection. Tennessee gets an athletic player with sideline-to-sideline capability — he relies on that explosiveness to beat the man trying to block him.
Round 4, Pick 130: Chigoziem Okonkwo, TE, Maryland
With A.J. Brown already on the roster, putting stress on the defense is pretty easy for the Titans. Adding a player like Chigoziem Okonkwo adds to that stress. Maryland found multiple ways to get him the football last year, and he produced plenty of explosive plays.
While he won’t get as many tight end screens in the NFL, Tennessee is getting a player that can carve a defense up the seam. They also get an explosive pass catcher who can create havoc running shallow crossing routes.
Round 4, Pick 143: Khalil Shakir, WR, Boise State
If this 2022 NFL Mock Draft turns into reality, teams need to be seriously concerned about the Titans’ offense. Khalil Shakir showcased his explosive skill set in the last couple of months, and it helped move him up to a third/fourth-round projection. He’s a player who’s been cooking defenders for years now, and it’s only a matter of time before the NFL sees it firsthand.
Shakir’s quickness helps him create separation against anyone he faces. His ability to accelerate out of cuts creates stress on the defender covering him and gives him enough speed to stretch a defense downfield. He’s also an acrobatic catcher who’s capable of extending his catch radius thanks to his flexibility.
Round 5, Pick 169: Zach Tom, OL, Wake Forest
One of the most underrated picks of this 2022 NFL Mock Draft is Zach Tom. Regardless of which team takes him, he brings a unique experience that no one else does. At Wake Forest, he played every position on the offensive line. He started at center but eventually worked his way out to tackle this past season. So, Tennessee gets depth at multiple positions by drafting one player, and that’s tough to beat.
Round 6, Pick 203: Christopher Allen, EDGE, Alabama
Even though he didn’t play in 2021, Christopher Allen has the talent to compete in the NFL. In 2020, he produced 37 tackles, 13.0 tackles for loss, and 6 sacks. It’s tough to see him moving up and out of Day 3, but he could become a good value for a team looking to take a chance on his potential.
Round 6, Pick 219: Devin Cochran, OT, Georgia Tech
If you watched Georgia Tech play this year, you’re either a huge fan of the team or just there to watch Jahmyr Gibbs run the football. While the offense didn’t thrive a ton, there were some nice pieces to watch. Devin Cochran brings great size to the Titans but needs some time to develop into a more fine-tuned tackle.
