The Indianapolis Colts will be in the market for a few positions with their 2022 NFL Draft picks. Indianapolis, fresh from moving away from Carson Wentz as their quarterback, has an influx of draft capital, thanks to the Washington Commanders. Yet, the Colts don’t select until Day 2 of the draft. Indianapolis sent Wentz to Washington in exchange for two third-round picks and a pick swap in Round 2. The Colts moved up from pick No. 47 to No. 42 and grabbed an additional pick in the third rounds of the 2022 (pick 73) and 2023 NFL Drafts.
The Colts also made a move for another quarterback, trading their third-round pick (No. 82) for Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan. The Colts essentially traded away Wentz for Ryan, moving up in each round in the process.
Indianapolis Colts 2022 NFL Draft needs
Unfortunately, the Colts don’t select until No. 42 overall — 10 picks into Day 2 of the 2022 NFL Draft. With the growing likelihood of the top quarterbacks falling off the board in Round 1 and the early stages of Round 2, they made the decision to acquire Ryan from Atlanta.
Their list of needs likely changes in priority only as they’d be wise to secure the services of a young signal-caller to develop in addition to their short-term answer of Ryan. Here’s how Indianapolis’ draft needs stand after the Wentz and Ryan trades:
