Most of the attention for the NFL Draft goes to the guys that will be selected on Day 1. But what about the guys after that? Oklahoma linebacker Brian Asamoah isn’t going in the first round of any 2022 NFL Mock Draft, but he has good value later in the draft. So, where is he being selected? Let’s take a look.
NFL Mock Draft 2022: Brian Asamoah’s draft projections
Asamoah has NFL Hall of Fame aspirations. He wants to be great. Thus, even though he’s not going to be a first-round talent, he can still achieve that dream. Currently, he’s projected by many to go late on Day 2 or early on Day 3 of the 2022 NFL Draft.
Will Brian Asamoah’s draft stock change after his NFL Combine performance?
Any time a player has a strong performance at the NFL Combine, his draft stock improves. The question then becomes, how much? Asamoah ran a 4.56-second 40-yard dash and produced a 36.5-inch vertical and 10’4″ broad jump. None of that was surprising, however.
When you watch the Sooners’ defense, you notice one thing about Asamoah’s game — he’s an explosive player who’s not afraid to get downhill quickly or fly to the football. If anything, we expected him to produce these numbers. Still, his results helped his draft stock gravitate toward a Day 2 selection.
NFL Mock Draft 2022: PFN’s top consensus landing spots
Projected as a weakside 3-4 linebacker or the WILL in a 4-3 scheme, one thing remained constant in Asamoah’s game — athleticism. That hasn’t changed from his initial scouting report to now.
In a recent 2022 NFL Mock Draft from PFN Draft Analyst Ian Cummings, Asamoah was selected 90th overall (third round) by the Tennessee Titans. The selection made Asamoah the eighth linebacker taken off the board. Cummings noted that Asamoah is an “explosive linebacker who’s coming into form.”
PFN’s other draft analyst, Oliver Hodgkinson, projected the Minnesota Vikings to take Asamoah 77th overall in his 4-Round 2022 NFL Mock Draft. PFN has him in a perfect spot for a team to take a flyer on a prospect with great upside that might not be the most well-rounded player. It’s tough to ignore the athleticism in Asamoah’s game. Teams could move him up even more after Oklahoma’s Pro Day.
Where does Brian Asamoah land on other draft boards?
Outside of Pro Football Network, ESPN’s Mel Kiper didn’t see Asamoah as a top-10 linebacker in the draft before the Combine. That might have changed after the event, and it could fluctuate after the pro day, too. Depending on where he puts outside linebackers like Asamoah’s teammate, Nik Bonitto, that could impact where he lands.
The general consensus from most NFL analysts is that they love his athleticism and ability to get downhill quickly. Some have him going late in the second round, but his most accurate projection continues to narrow in on the third round.
