NFL Odds: Week 2 expert handicapper selections

The first week is over and our expert handicapper pulled out a profit. Week 2 is tricky because of overreactions on the market, but we will find a way to make money anyways!

Coming off a successful first week of NFL betting, our expert handicapper, Chris Smith, is back with some more plays. His current record sits at a respectable 3-2 (30$), bringing in profit during one of the most volatile weeks of the NFL season. For a recap of all PFN’s plays and the NFL odds in Week 1 make sure to check out our Sheep Report.

Week 2 is known as the “overreaction” week, where the public will jump on sides based solely on first game performances. Is Pro Football Network going to jump on the public bandwagon or is there value on the sharp side? Find out here!

Tommy Teaser play of the weekend

    Vikings +9 and Cowboys +1 (-120) risk $24 to win $20

The Vikings are coming off a dominant performance against a Falcons team that I think will flirt with playoff contention this season. The Packers meanwhile, defeated a Bears squad looking like a prime regression candidate. I like the Vikings at +3 in a game they might very well win outright. Minnesota is 5-1-1 in their last seven matchups with Green Bay, covering the spread in six of those contests. So why the six extra points? That has to do with the second leg of our teaser in the Nation’s capital this weekend.

The Cowboys are five-point favorites in Washington this weekend. I expect Dallas to prevail, but having to give more than a field goal in a road game against a winless divisional opponent scares me. I do think the fact that Washington snuck up on the Eagles early in Week 1 will be to Dallas’ advantage. While the Cowboys have won seven of the last nine against Washington, five of those contests ended with the winning team prevailing by five points or less. Tease the Cowboys to win outright and enjoy the extra points for the Vikings.

Patriots first half -11.5 (-110) risk $23 to win $20.50

Looks like the oddsmakers are going to force us to be creative in attempting to fade the Miami Dolphins this season. Last week we parlayed the Ravens Money Line to victory lane, but at -19 New England simply won’t allow for that type of play.

The one way I believe you can find value in the Patriots on Sunday is by taking them in the first half at -11.5 points. My system predicts the Patriots to be leading by between 10-14 points at halftime, which means we have established a slight edge in this spot. The Dolphins have traditionally played the Patriots tough in South Beach, but this 2019 version is a different animal. Take the Pats first half -11.5 and avoid sweating out a backdoor cover of the 19 points in the final quarter.

Philadelphia at Atlanta OVER 51 (-110) risk $22 to win $20

Both of these teams are stacked with respective treasure troves of offensive talent at skill positions. The Eagles turned the switch in the second half of last week’s victory, scoring 25 points after the break on their way to a home victory.

The Falcons, meanwhile, never quite found their footing against a dominant Vikings defense that allowed no points until garbage time. I think Matt Ryan and Atlanta’s offense bounce back at home in prime time Sunday night. The over has hit in over 70% of these two team’s previous 20 games combined September.
